Holiday Makeup Look: Ruby Red Lips that Sparkle

The holiday season is here, which means many of us are searching for the perfect holiday makeup look to wear to holiday and New Year’s Eve parties.  Over the course of the next few weeks, I will post a holiday makeup look that you can try at home.

The first holiday makeup look focuses on the lips.  I actually saw this lip on Jeannie Mai at an Opensky event a year or so ago. It was BEAUTIFUL!!! I asked her what it was, she responded: “GLIPS!”  Through some research I figured it out.

Red lips are the perfect accessory, and with some glitter, you have the sparkle that’s just right for the holiday season.  The best part of this red, glitter lip is that it doesn’t budge.  So, drink, be merry, and kiss under the mistletoe.

Here’s what you will need:

1.  Red lip pencil suitable for your skin tone.  I used MAC Cosmetics “Brick” Lip pencil

2. Matte Red Lipstick.  I use MAC Ruby Woo.  I  think every woman has this red lip pie in their stash.

3.  Ben Nye Aqua Glitter in Red.  You can find this at Ricky’s and it’s inexpensive.

Kim Porter’s November Favorites for Makeup and Skincare

Here are my November favorites in beauty and skincare.   It’s a lot, visually, so if I miss anything just refer to the photos.  Honestly, I use a lot of items until I either get tired of them, or they run out; therefore, you might see a repeat of products from last months post.

November Favorites Skincare

I purchased the Jason Shower Gel on whim from my local health food store. I love it. My skin is never left feeling stripped, but, soft and moisturized.  It doesn’t foam up as much as I’d like but, that isn’t a big deal.  It has a mild fruity scent, that doesn’t linger too long, so it’s not annoying, and doesn’t interfere with a perfume or spray you might use.

Belle Butters Unyevu Butter and Pumpkin Pie Butter.  I love both of these.  I use the Pumpkin Pie Butter mostly on myself right after the shower to lock in moisture.  The scent is just divine (check my review).  The Unyevu butter I use on my daughter’s hair and on my hands. I think my husband sneaks and uses it, too!

I’ve been using the Tria Beauty Skin Perfecting Blue Light Treatment for about 3 months now.  I really suggest you try it out if you’re an acne sufferer.  It helps.

The Algenist Triple Action Micropolish and Peel is something I’ve had to put down my Clarisonic MIA for.  I learned the hard way that I can’t use both.  I’ve used the Algenist Triple Action Micropolish and Peel twice per week for a little over a month, and my skin looks healthier, and brighter.  My skin is also as soft as a baby’s bottom.

Cerave Skin AM & PM Moisturizer I use these religiously, even after switching out the Cerave cleanser to use my Sugared Beauty Happy Face Cleanser.

Swatches: MAC Cosmetics Grey Friday Lipstick

I got caught out there with the Black Friday sales.  Getting emails and text alerts on your phone is such bad business. My wallet isn’t happy right now. I don’t feel too bad since I haven’t made a makeup purchase in like… forever! In my case, I wound up purchasing some items from MAC, which included the limited edition Grey Friday lipstick.  I was excited to have this since it was different.  I’m all for different lipstick shades, except those in the range of powder blue etc.  Things that would just make me look like a ratchet hoodrat female rapper.  Anyway, my package finally arrived yesterday evening; a day late.  I immediately swatched it.

My thoughts about the Grey Friday lipstick  is that it is ehh.  I wish it were more opaque.  It is creamy.  Application is smooth, but is a little streaky.   I can see the Grey Friday lisptick working well with a berry or purple shade, maybe even a fuschia.  The shade definitely looks different on everyone.  Honestly, with a clear gloss, and gunmetal pigment, you can create the same shade at home.  I’m happy I didn’t pay full-price for it.

Did you purchase the Grey Friday lipstick?  What are your thoughts?
