Over a dozen brands will be launching new products in an array of eye-popping colors and must-have accessories

 The Makeup Show NYC is excited to offer a sneak peek of the newest products on the market, and you can be amongst the first to pick these up.  The highly anticipated show will continue to deliver the LARGEST pro-only beauty event and bring you the hottest trends and beauty products in the industry.  Be in the midst of top beauty brands as they show you the trends and new products you can’t be without this season.  Below is just a sampling of these products, which can be found all under one roof at The Makeup Show NYC.

Skincare Product Review: Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant

I purchased the Dermalogica Cleansing System ($22) from the Makeup Show Holiday Pop-up Shop in December of 2011.  The system consisted of 1.7 fl oz the following: Special Cleansing Gel, Daily Microfoliant, Skin Smoothing Cream and Multivitamin Power Firm.  The set lasted me a little over 2 months.  My favorite product from the system was the Daily Microfoliant.  I also liked the Multivitamin Power Firm, I will review that in another post.

 About the Daily Microfoliant:

This unique Rice-based enzyme powder microfoliates dulling debris and instantly leaves skin noticeably smoother and brighter. Contains no artificial fragrance or color. – Dermalogica.com

How to use:

  • Dispense about a half-teaspoon of Daily Microfoliant® into very wet hands and create a creamy paste by rubbing hands together. Apply to face in circular motions, avoiding the eye area. Massage gently for one minute, then rinse thoroughly. Follow with Multi-Active Toner or Soothing Protection Spray and prescribed Dermalogica Moisturizer.

My thoughts on the Daily Microfoliant:

I really like using the Daily Microfoliant.  It is gentle, yet effective in exfoliating my skin.  After using the Daily Microfoliant, my skin was much smoother, softer and polished!   Sometimes I used it according to the instructions (it turns into a paste-like substance), and other times, while in the shower, I applied some to my Clarisonic MIA and used that to massage it into my skin.  Can you say super amazing results?

Caution: Be careful if you bring it into the shower, if water gets inside, it will clump up.

Would I recommend?

This is a product I would definitely repurchase time and time again. It is great for all skin types too! It is expensive ($50 a pop), however, a little goes a long way, which makes up for the cost of the product.   Out of all of the products in the system, this was my #1 favorite.

Why were any of the other products not your favorite?

I did not like the Special Cleansing Gel because it seemed to dry out my skin around my chin and nose when used with or without the Daily Microfoliant.  The skin in those areas were not only left feeling dry, but felt tight as well.  I stopped using it.  The Skin Smoothing Cream did make my skin feel super soft, however, it still did nothing to hydrate my skin, especially in the areas where the Special Cleansing Gel made dry.  I need to try something else from Dermalogica that will work for me.  They have tons of other great products I’ve heard good things about.

Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. For those of you who need a little reminder, it falls on Sunday, May 13, 2012.  You have less than three weeks to get your gifts together. 

Being a new mom has given me a new perspective on Mother’s Day gifting.  When I think of a Mother’s Day gift, I think of something the Mom herself would use.  Personally, I would not want a vase, crockpot, or any other houseware that would mean I’m doing yet another thing for my family.  While all of those things would be nice, I would want something that is specifically for ME.   The best gifts are when you give something that you know the recipient really covets but wouldn’t justify spending the money to buy for herself.
