Sam Fine Biography

CELEBRITY MAKEUP ARTIST/AUTHOR

What do superstars Patti Labelle, Vanessa L. Williams, Halle Berry, Brandy and supermodels Tyra Banks, Veronica Webb, Iman and Naomi Campbell all have in common? They’ve relied on the expert hand of makeup artist Sam Fine to look their most glamorous. That’s because Fine knows that the key to making up goes beyond painting a pretty face. Long before he became a celebrity makeup artist, the Chicago native paid his dues working behind the makeup counter of department stores, an experience he fondly refers to as “the real school of beauty”. There he came in contact with women from all walks of life that wanted one thing – to look their absolute best. He made it his mission to show them how to accentuate their unique beauty by using colors and shades that would best complement their complexions. But most importantly he helped them eliminate their doubts and apprehension about applying makeup so that they too could achieve dazzling results.

Fine’s talent and determination has taken him far from the makeup counter, making him one of today’s most sought after makeup artists. His work has appeared on the covers and pages of Cosmopolitan, Harper’s Bazaar, Essence, Vibe and Marie Claire and was chosen as the first African – American spokesperson for Revlon and Covergirl Cosmetics. But it was the experiences from his formative years selling makeup that inspired him to write his first book, Fine Beauty: Beauty Basics and Beyond for African – American women, a how-to guide that highlights his many accomplishments.

As follow-up to his best-selling book, Fine Beauty, Fine introduced his first instructional DVD, Fine: The Basics of Beauty in October 2009. As a continuation of his commitment to educate women of color on the “fine” art of makeup, this step-by-step tutorial features three individual makeovers and addresses a myriad of beauty challenges by focusing on tools, technique and product selection. Sharing his wealth of experience and expertise, Fine enables viewers to fully understand all that goes into creating a flawless, natural-looking face.

Review: Glycerin & Honey Complexion Bar

My face began to break out something crazy, hence the lack of FOTD posts and youtube video tutorials. I didn’t want to exacerbate the problem by putting makeup on irritated skin. My old skin care routine stopped working, and since I am pregnant, there isn’t much I can use. I had to wait it out until I reached the second trimester, which promised less hormonal breakouts/acne. It did for a while, then it started breaking out again.

The picture below is what my skin looked like when I was breaking out… It’s bad!

I started using BODY SERIES Glycerin and Honey Complexion Bar.  After two or so weeks of using it, I can definitely see a dramatic change in my face.  It’s almost as clear as it was pre-pregnancy.

Price: $4.50 (3 Bars in one Pack)

Where to buy:  Glycerin & Honey Complexion Bar

Description: The perfect mild alternative for teens and those with sensitive skin. With two conditioners and a gentle.  Rich in natural glycerine and honey. Biodegradable cleanser.

Ingredients: Sodium Tallowate, Sodium Cocoate, Water, Glycerin, Sucrose, Alcohol Denat. Sodium Stearate, Fragrance, Honey, Pentasodium Pentetate, Tetrasodium Etidronate, D&C Yellow No. 10 (CI 47005), D&C Red No. 33 (CI 17200).

My thoughts:

I love it! It’s affordable and it works.  It’s mild, and non-drying.  It doesn’t contain any harsh chemicals like salicylic acid (I can’t use) or benzoyl peroxide, which are used for acne.  The scent reminds me of Neutrogena’s glycerin soap, either the gel or the bar.  I also like that it can also be used on your body.  If I need to exfoliate, I use it with one of those circular handheld exfoliators you can pick-up from a pharmacy for about $1.50.  I hope to one day own a Clarisonic.  Maybe that will solve my problems for good.

Do I Recommend: Yes!  It’s so cheap it wouldn’t hurt to try.  It worked well for me.

NOTE: Just because the product worked for me, does not necessarily mean it will work for you and your skin type.  Please use caution and your own discretion before trying anything new.

Disclaimer:  This is an honest review.  I paid for the item mentioned in this post with my own money, and I was not paid for this review.

Skin care tips for the cooler months & Giveaway!

As it begins to get cooler your skincare routine should change as well. Here are some tips Eucerin suggests so you can put your Skin FIRST this winter and keep your skin and body healthy all the way into Spring 2011!

“I have enough going on during the winter – why should I add my skin to my to-do list?”

With the upcoming holidays, planning of winter activities and visiting family and friends, you don’t want to add one more thing to your day. But dry skin can occur when your skin is exposed to temperature changes like dry, cold or windy weather – and don’t be fooled into thinking it’s just the outdoor weather that can harm you, indoor heat can cause skin to dry out as well.

Dry skin affects up to 20 percent of the population and can put skin at risk for bacterial, viral and fungal infections, making moisturizing extra necessary. Moisturizers like Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials bind water to the skin for long lasting moisturization. The result: a softer and more elastic stratum corneum with strengthened protective properties.

“I use moisturizers and cleansers on my body when I shower, is that good enough?”

When you’re cleaning and moisturizing, don’t forget about your hands. Some people tend to forget how important they are to overall skin health and focus on their face and neck. Your hands get into everything, from scalding hot water in the kitchen sink to the freezing cold outdoor temperatures. You can protect your hands by choosing washes and moisturizers designed to replace lost lipids, maintain the physiological pH of your hands’ stratum corneum and promote skin’s natural renewal process.   Also, when going outside in the cold weather, always wear gloves!

Win it!

U.S. Readers Only are eligible to win Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials Body lotion and hand creme.
