Makeup By Kim Porter

@Yagolicious Beauty Affair (pictures)

Yesterday evening I attended the Yagolicious Beauty Affair as one of the makeup artist on the glam squad, which was held at the Beauty Bar in the city from 6 PM -10 PM.  The event was cool, especially the free manicures, massages, and bra fitting by The Bra Fit Experts.

The highlight of my evening was being able to give my favorite ‘bad girl’,  Flo a mini-makeover.  She loved the colors I used from Yago’s paintwheel.  I also learned that she used to do makeup as well, along with some other things.  She’s MAD cool & funny! We chatted a lot, and even exchanged info!

Guest Post: Makeup Consultation & Shopping Experience

Let me begin by saying, I am very happy with my new makeup.  On Saturday, September 11, 2010, I along with my sister/makeup artist Kim went shopping at the MAC Boutique located in Brooklyn Heights.  It was there that Kim, along with one of the store associates helped me in my purchase of a concealer to cover not only my blemishes, but also the dark circles that appeared under my eyes a few months ago; a face powder called ‘Mineralized Skin Finish’ in Dark (I would probably be a lighter shade Medium Deep or Medium Dark, but I have a tan from my cruise vacation, so I will purchase one of those shortly); some brow set in “Show-Off” because according to my personal make-up artist/consultant, the eyebrows are one of the important focal points to a flawless face; and my final purchase was a powder blush, which I absolutely love in the color “Sweet as Cocoa”.

Once I had all of my purchases, Kim surprised me and purchased a MAC #224 blending brush for me.  Even with her discount, I would never pay that much for a makeup brush …Thanks Kim!!!  Our day of cosmetic shopping ended by us walking down the block to Ricky’s to purchase what I think is one of the best moisturizers ever called ‘Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentre’.  My first experience using this moisturizer was on the cruise.  It is so lightweight and doesn’t leave my already oily skin shiny.

I’d like to end this post by repeating one of the compliments I received yesterday morning as I was dropping my son off at the bus stop.  One of the mothers said “Wow, you look so pretty today”…  I responded by saying ‘Who me?”, and all the other moms and even one dad shouted “yes you!”  So thank you Kim.  I will be utilizing your services pretty soon…  BTW… don’t you owe me a makeover since I got my hair cut?!!

Kitty Bradshaw’s Blogger Experience

A few weeks back Kitty Bradshaw hosted one of her blogger experiences for individuals who had blogs on WordPress.  This one featured nRelate, which is an on-line technology company that offers relevant related content to online publishers.  Check their site for more information.

At this session, the bloggers in attendance were not overwhelmed with information related to nrelate products. It was more so a forum where each individual spoke about issues they had with blogging, and what they would like to see to better their blogging experience.  nRelate offered their expertise, and even suggested a few critical items (plug-ins) every blogger should have, which included a back-up plug-in. nRelate also wanted to learn ways they would be able to help bloggers by designing a product that would satisfy most of their blogging needs.

Do I have the nRelate plugin? Yes, I do.  I actually like it.  Prior to using this plug-in, I used other related content plug-in’s such as, Another Related Post, and LinkWithin.  Linkwithin worked in blogger, but never seemed to work here on WordPress. Another related post just showed the link of the posts without a picture, which wasn’t eye-catching at all.

I like the nrelate plug-in because it links other posts with a picture, and you also have the option of linking posts from other blogs (on your blogroll who use nrelate) that have the same or similar content. This, in turn, draws traffic to your blog.

All-in-all, this was a great meetup.  It was not only informative, it was fun as well. I also got to meet a new group of bloggers.

Thanks Kitty for putting this together!
