Cherry Culture Haul featuring LA Girl Pro Concealers, NYX & Model in a Bottle

I feel like I haven’t done a haul post in forever.  It isn’t like I haven’t purchased anything.  When I bought my ‘Grey Friday’ lipstick from MAC I also purchased three eyeshadows for my kit.  Anyway, after Thanksgiving Cherry Culture had a decent sale going, which included an additional 20% off of your order so I took it upon myself to order a few products I’ve wanted to try, such as the following:

LA GIRL PRO Concealers

LA Girl Pro Concealers

These concealers have been all the rage amongst beauty bloggers, bloggers, as well as some makeup artists.  Cherry culture had them on sale for $2.50! I wound up buying all 18 shades. I think this was a great purchase. The consistency of the concealers are good, and the coverage is excellent.  They blend easily as well. So far, I’m impressed.  I’m happy I got all 18 so now I have shades for my kit.

Description: Crease-resistant, opaque coverage in a creamy yet lightweight texture. The long-wearing formula camouflages darkness under the eyes, redness and skin imperfections. Provides complete, natural-looking coverage, evens skin tone, covers dark circles and minimizes fine lines around the eyes. Chamomile extract & vitamin C & E. Includes brush-tip applicator for easy application.

Here are swatches of four of the concealers I posted on instagram if you would like for me to swatch all of them just let me know.

NYX Matte Bronzer

I’ve wanted to purchase these since they came out. I do not like bronzers with a ton of shimmer.  These seemed perfect.  I purchased both of the darkest shades, ‘Dark Tan’ and ‘Deep Tan’ to see which faired better with my skin tone.  Both remind me of the MAC ‘Format’ blush that I love so much, minus the shimmer.  These were on sale for $6.80.

Model in a Bottle

I purchased the Model in a Bottle Original Formula for my kit.  I love their brow sealer, and I’ve heard nothing but great things about this makeup setting spray.  After using it on clients, I know it works.  It was a great purchase for $14.50

Kim Porter’s Top Beauty Trends for 2012

The year has quickly come to a close, and while there were many beauty trends that graced us this year, from winged eyeliner, hair chalking, natural brows and more, there were few that I had the nerve to try, and some that I liked. Here are my personal top beauty trends for 2012.

Beauty Trends 2012

Cat eye/ Winged Eyeliner

This is my number one top beauty trend for 2012.  I’ve rocked a cat eye or a version of it almost daily.  I like that it can be recreated in so many different ways just by adding color, extending the length of it, or changing the shape.  Some people are over it, but I am not.

You can use MAC Fluidline gel eyeliner or MAC Fluidlast, which I like to use on clients to create a nice cat eye.

Berry Lips/Vampy Lips

Even though I can rock a red lip any day, can someone say ‘Ruby Woo’? Berry shades have been my top choice of a lippie lately. Recently, while shopping my own stash I discovered the NYX Jumbo Lip Pencil in “Narcisse”  that I love.  I also love to wear blogger, Afrobella’s MAC Lipglass in “All of my Purple Life”, which is shown above.

Natural Brow

Natural brows were trending this year.  Honestly, it has been a top beauty trend of mine for a long time;  I’m really not into heavily sculpted brows.  You know, the ones that look like a sharpie or some form of marker was use?  Plus, a good brow can transform any face from drab to fab in minutes!

MAC ‘Spiked’ eyebrow pencil is a staple.

MAC Eye Brows

Ombre Everything!

Clearly, I’ve been into ombre – from my hair to my lips, which is why it is one of the items that made my top beauty trends list for 2012.  My hair is currently ombre, and I’m about to do something really different [for me]  for 2013 that is, you guessed it, OMBRE!  I’ve also been playing around with ombre lips.  It’s fun, and cool.

Nail Art

I’ve dabbled in nail art this year, whether if it was doing it on my own or going to the nail salon to get a calgel mani.  Nail art, even though it’s one of my top beauty trends for 2012, I don’t think it will die since, like makeup it’s ever changing.

Ciaté Velvet ManicureTM

Top Bun

The top bun made my top beauty trend list, not only because I rocked it for most of the summer, but also because it s a simple, yet sophisticated hairdo that can be dressed up or down.  Plus, during the summer months it kept the hair off of my face, which meant less breakouts.

Review: Get glowing skin for the New Year with Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel

In October, I gave you a sneak peek of my thoughts on the Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel, after trying it at an Algenist event (see post). For the last two months I’ve set aside my beloved Clarisonic MIA to give the Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel a whirl. I’m partial to my Clarisonic, so for me to neglect it for so long, this must be some good stuff!

Description:

Leveraging the science of biotechnology, this advanced microdermabrasion peel resurfaces the skin with a 10% acid duo (patent-pending Alguronic Acid + Glycolic Acid) in a potent combination with a 10% fruit enzyme complex and micro polishing crystals to immediately transform skin texture & tone. Micro polishing crystals mechanically lift off larger skin-dulling cells and buff rough skin to reveal a new radiant skin surface. The acid duo and fruit enzyme complex work deep into the epidermis to lift away dull skin cells and to reveal skin that appears regenerated, smoother and more even.

My thoughts:

I was first introduced to Algenist at the QVC Beauty Breakfast this past May. I was immediately intrigued by this line after seeing the immediate results their wrinkle minimize provided, as well as an exclusive ingredient they have, Alguronic Acid.
The Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel is an at-home micro-dermabrasion peel that has combined, for the first time Alguronic Acid and Glycolic Acid to generate skin cell renewal for smoother, and even skin. This product is supposed to be used twice per week. Silly me, I used it twice per week, and used my Clarisonic MIA on other days. Let’s just say my skin was not happy at all. My skin was left dry and peeling. To overcompensate for the dryness, my skin produced more oil and broke out. I learned my lesson, and started anew by putting aside my Clarisonic MIA for the duration of the two months I’ve been the Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel.

This product is to be used on clean, damp skin. If you’ve washed your face, and your skin has already dried, just spritz your face with a little water to get it damp. A pea-sized amount is just enough to massage it into your face. Remember to be gentle when applying it to avoid having your skin become raw, which will lead to peeling skin. It happened to me, so I’m warning you.  You may feel a bit of a tingle once it settles in for the recommended 3-5 minutes, but, after you rinse it off, you’re left with baby soft, glowing skin!

I was impressed with the Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel immediately after using it, and even on the days I did not use it. I know it was working for me because other people complimented me on how well my skin looked.

What I like about this product

The Triple-Action Micropolish & Peel is suitable for all skin types. It is dermatologist tested, non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, and cruelty-free. All Algenist products are formulated without parabens, sulfates, synthetic dyes, phthalates, GMOs, and Triclosan.

Would I recommend?

I would recommend this product; however, just because it worked for me does not mean it will work for you. It doesn’t hurt to try it out. You can always stop by your local Sephora to request a sample to try it out for yourself. As I mentioned in my previous post, the Algenist Triple-Action Micropolish and Peel is priced at $75, which may seem a little high, but, when you’re only using a pea-sized amount twice per week, you’re getting your monies worth.
