Blogging While Brown Meetup

Yesterday evening was the Blogging While Brown Meetup, which was held at the Houndstooth Pub in the City.   The organizer for this meeting was the founder of Cup Cakes Take The Cake and Editor of PepsiWe Inspire.com, Nichelle Stephens.   I attended with my friend and fellow blogger, Janique from HerGoodybag.com and our other friend Shelly, whom we went to high school with.

There was an array of bloggers there, from technology, fashion, lifestyle, and beauty. Sorry if I missed a genre.  It was great meeting all of them, and being able to network.  Thanks Nichelle for putting this meetup together.

Twitter handlers of those who were in attendance… Follow them! They all have great blogs.

Can you guess my favorite flavor of tea?

My favorite of the three is Tazo Chai Spiced Black Tea Latte Concentrate.  You’ve probably had this in Starbucks if you’ve ever gotten a Chai Tea Latte (iced or hot). I LOVE IT!!! It’s easy to make too! Yo’re better off buying this for $3.49 instead of paying $5 a cup for it at Starbucks.

The Celestial Seasonings Chai Tea in Sweet Coconut Thai is something I purchased today from Fairway.  This one is a spiced red tea. A friend of mine suggested I try coconut tea, but I was only able to find this.  It tastes good.

The last box of Celestial Seasonings  Chai Tea in Indian Spice is a black tea like the Tazo. Tazo tastes much better .:IMO:.

Do you have a favorite tea?

If anyone has ever tried a good coconut tea they can recommend let me know please.

Phyto Bastille Day Soiree & CoverFX Purchase

Yesterday evening, myself along with Janique of Hergoodybag.com attended the Bastille Day Soiree hosted at Phyto Universe.   The event lasted from 6pm – 8pm, and included a mini French lesson, the importance of having a good skincare regimen, the difference between American and Europeen women when it comes to taking care of your skin and body, and haircare.

Bastille Day is the French national holiday. In France, it is formally called La Fête Nationale (National Celebration) and commonly le quatorze juillet (the fourteenth of July). Bastille Day commemorates the Storming of the Bastille of July 14th, 1789.

The French lesson that was given by Alliance Francaise was helpful, in that it enabled us to know what the many different terms were on the product labels.  We learned terms…

For the hair – Pour le cheveux

For the skin – Pour la peau

A hint of perfume – Une touche de parfum

Catherine Raubiet, the Lierac National Training Director provided us with some important skincare tips, and statistics. Check here for more tips.

One thing that stood out most to me was that in Europe, females begin to get facials as young as age 14.  AND facials are done as often as once a month! In contrast, American women view facials as a luxury and not a necessity.

American Women VS European Women

– American women focus on covering up instead of preventing and treating the problem

– European women wear very light makeup to enhance their natural beauty

Very important fact for all women to know – 98% of women worldwide have cellulite! So don’t think you’re alone.

Celebrity Hairstylist and salon owner Julien Farel also gave the group of ladies tips on haircare for the summer.  A tip that he mentioned that I know of, but don’t do is suncare protection for the hair.

Protecting your hair from the sun is important to keep it from becoming damaged and dry.

Going to the beach or to the pool?

Put Condition in your hair BEFORE you go into the pool or to the beach.  This helps control the chlorine, and prevents color change.

For African American hair, he recommended Phytospecific moisturizing styling balm.

The giftbags…

Phytojoba Intense Hydrating Mask for suppleness and shine. It regenerates your hair and your hair regains softness and elasticity.

Lierac Paris Diopti Demaq– Gentle Eye Makeup Remover. It is a crystal-gel that removes makeup from eyelids and lases with leaving an oily film. Vitamin B5 and keratin derivatives help prevent the loss of lashes and restore their strength, suppleness and thickness.

Caron  Paris Fleur de Rocaille  eau de toilette natural spray.

I just want to say hello to the following people I met at the event last night:

Felicia – This That Beauty

Shaunequa – Temple of Glam

Misha – The Fab Chick

Wanda Man – Black Dress Traveler

Judene Walden – The Source & JONES Magazine

Tracey Ferguson – JONES Magazine

I also went to Sephora to pick-up a CoverFX – MatteFX Oil Absorbing & Blotting Powder ($24).

I got dark…

Guest Post: Oil Cleansing Method

Hello beautiful people!

I’m Nicole and I wanted to share some information with you about the Oil Cleansing Method, or OCM. When I first heard of this cleansing method, I thought “slapping more oil on my face?” “When its already oily by the afternoon?” However, when I read the reasons behind this method, it made complete sense! There are many reasons that some of the mainstream products out there may give your skin trouble, the main one being that they strip the oil out of your precious skin. That leaves our skin trying to compensate and replace the oil that was stripped away, which results in dry tight skin later replaced by very oily skin! Please understand this method may not be for everyone, but I have enjoyed the results and my husband and ten year son have too!

Fragrance and irritants is the other culprit, causing reactions, redness and “angry “skin! So the first thing to remember is that oil dissolves oil. Pimples, blackheads and blemishes are caused by lots of things like hormones, and bacteria. Natural oils applied to your face can heal, moisturize and protect it so it can do what it’s supposed to do. By massaging your face with oil you can dissolve the oil and impurities stuck in your pores. Now on to the simple way to cleanse your face with oil!

1. You will need to blend two oils, preferably organic – The main oil with the moisturizing properties can be either olive or sunflower seed, I have combination skin, and the sunflower seed works well for me. The second oil will be castor oil, which is known for purging and cleansing out your pores.

2. For oily skin– you may try 30% Castor to 70% Sunflower Seed Oil, balanced skin -20% castor oil to 80% Sunflower Seed oil, and dry skin try a blend of 10% Castor oil to 90% Sunflower Seed Oil.

3. Remember you have to see what works for your skin, these are just suggestions, do your research!

4. Store your oils in a clean container at all times to avoid bacteria growth.

5. You will need a soft washcloth, your oil blend and hot water. You may want to do this routine before bedtime. By morning, you can just wash your face with water, no deep cleaning needed.

6. Pour a generous amount of oil in the palm of your hand, rub your hands together and smooth the oil over your face, it’s actually relaxing!

7. Use firm motions and massage the oil deep into your pores, this will remove any makeup and dirt from the day, so you won’t need makeup remover.

8. Once you have massaged your entire face, soak your washcloth in warm water and hold it over your face, to steam it. Let it stay on your skin until it cools, and gently wipe all traces if the oil away. No need to scrub! Your skin will feel soft and smooth.

9. Should your skin feel tight at the end rub a few drops of oil over your face, the method of deep cleaning with oil doesn’t need to be done daily maybe every other day. You may see for the first few days small “whiteheads” that erupt as your skin purges the impurities. It can take a week or so for your skin to balance where it should be. Enjoy small pores, smooth skin and even skin tone! Naturally!
