Review: Tarte Fresh Eyes Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes are the real deal

tarte Fresh Eyes Maracuja Waterproof

It’s no secret that I’m a huge fan of Tarte Cosmetics.  When the opportunity arose for me to review some of their newest products for spring and summer, I jumped on it. For the last month I’ve been using the Tarte Fresh Eyes Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes, and WOW these things are amazing!

The Tarte Fresh Eyes Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes are described as “Gentle, biodegradable waterproof eye makeup remover wipes infused with nourishing maracuja.”

I usually have trouble removing stubborn eye makeup, especially the waterproof kind.  Mascaras and eyeliner would oftentimes linger around even after I’ve used makeup remover and cleansed my face.  Can you say, raccoon eyes?  Uh yeah, not good, right? However, after using the Tarte Fresh Eyes Maracuja Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover Wipes I noticed all of my eye makeup removed easier, and came off completely. After I washed my face, I didn’t have raccoon eyes, which I would experience after using other eye makeup removers.  The wipes are gentle, and smell great, too!

For me, the wipes work better when you rest them on your eye for a few seconds then wipe away the eye makeup.

Recap: The Makeup Show New York 2014 #TMSNYC

The Makeup Show New York 2914 Haul
The Makeup Show is in it’s 9th year, and I have the scoop on what’s new! Plus, I have a few haul items I picked up while at The Makeup Show New York 2014.

The Saturday before The Makeup Show hosts a blogger preview session where seasoned, celebrity makeup artist, James Vincent dishes on all that’s new at The Makeup Show, his favorite products and brands, as well as the many insightful seminars and workshops.  James stated that the goal of The Makeup Show this year is to show different viewpoints and price points for every skill level, lifestyle and budget.

Here’s a quick rundown of what brands have to offer this year at The Makeup Show New York 2014:

Black Up Cosmetics

This brand has only been available in Paris and African, but now, via their website, US residents can purchase their products.  I’ve wanted to try this brand forever! I’m happy they were at The Makeup Show New York this year.  Their brand was specifically made for women of color, and their makeup is full of vibrant colors that show up true to color on darker skin tones.  Black Up Cosmetics gave each attendee their soon-to-be released matt lipstick, in a beautiful orange shade – $22.50.

Temptu

Pro transfer tattoos with some of James Vincent’s actual tattoos. During the preview James joked (I think) that we can use his tattoos and be part of his “gang” and then, just maybe we can “…go beat up rival hairstylists.”

Crown Brush

They’re launching in New York City! Vei Neill, who is known for her work as a makeup artist on films the Hunger Games will launch her set of brushes.  I didn’t visit the Crown Brush booth this year because I didn’t feel like “fighting” through the crowd.

Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics

James describes the creator, David Klasfield and the rest of the OCC makeup crew, as “…the kids that sat by themselves in the cafeteria.”  He’s a riot, isn’t he?  Anyway, OCC launched their new line of stained gloss this weekend at The Makeup Show New York 2014, which consists of about 5-6 shades.  They also released a lip balm duo, that features their classic shades, ‘Tarred’ and ‘feathered’.

Eve Pearl

Emmy winning makeup artist, Eve Pearl has created an invisible finish powderless powder.  It serves as a primer and/or finishing powder that can be used both before and after makeup has been applied.  To me, it feels like a balm, but on the skin it feels like a powder. It’s interesting. I can’t wait to test it out.

Cativa Cosmetics

James Vincent described Cativa Cosmetics’ waterproof pencil as a seriously waterproof pencil that we can’t live without. He said “Nothing prepares you for a hurricane like a waterproof pencil.”  I agree, after swatting Cativa’s pencil, it’s one of the deepest black pencils I’ve used, and it glides on so easily.

Senna Cosmetics

Eugenia Weston outdid herself with the micro tip liquid eyeliner in black.  I love me some liquid eyeliners, especially black.  This one packs pigment, goes on easily, and creates fine lines.

Graftobian

Graftobian (I love their foundation) has launched a banana cream powder, which is supposed to be better than the other banana powder.  It’s a talk based powder great for setting makeup, contour and highlight, and color correcting. I haven’t tested it yet; however, James Vincent thinks banana powder is dates, and is more for reality T.V. Take that how you want to.

Vincent Longo

New to the Makeup Show.  They gave us a beautiful eyeshadow along with a shadow brush.  I can’t wait to play around with it.

Ardency Inn

I love their Punker eyeliner (review here)! James talked about their Punker original smoky shadow, which provides a soft charcoal shade inside the rim or around the eye.  It sets itself and is waterproof.  He stated it’s a great base color that will bring out the pigment in any eyeshadow placed over it. Unfortunately, we were unable to get this since it was stuck in customs.

Fantabulash

This is a product that I can’t wait to test out. I saw it in action this weekend at The Makeup Show New York 2014.  Imagine a world where you don’t have to wait on glue to dry in order to apply your lashes.  This is it! It’s an adhesive strip used to apply your lashes with no mess and no dry time.

Seminars

On Saturday I watched Merrell Hollis work his magic.  He stated he likes to “…kill skin then bring it back alive.”  Merrell’s used a Sigma F64 Soft Blend Concealer Brush for [precision] contouring and highlighting.  He likes to use creme with a powder mixed together, and then buffed into skin to create a natural glow. During his demo he used MAC ‘Refined bronze‘ and ‘Improper Copper‘ and applied it to the high points of the face to create a natural glow.

Mini Haul

I didn’t buy much at The Makeup Show.  It’s my 4th year attending, and I’ve learned that I do not need to buy every single new and improved item I see, plus, I am on a strict budget.  I did purchase my favorite makeup setting spray from Model in a Bottle, their brow sealer, as well as the Nurturing Force Blot Out Offensive (review),  NARS Pure Radiant Moisturizer ($32) in shade Martinique, as well as some mink lashes from Velour Lashes ($20/pair).

Fragrance Friday: Bond No. 9 Hudson Yards is my New Favorite Scent for Spring

Disclosure: All opinions are my own. Sample of Bond No. 9 Hudson Yards provided for review consideration. Affiliate Links.

Bond No. 9 Hudson Yards
Perfumery, Bond No. 9 has made its mark in the industry by designing artisanal scented evocations of the neighborhood and streets of New York – from Riverside Drive to Chinatown, to Brooklyn (stand up).  For spring, Bond No. 9 has released Hudson Yards, inspired by the current construction site of New York’s largest redevelopment in years.

Hudson Yards encompasses the large area of Western Midtown.  Bordering on Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen, it’s also close enough to the Hudson River to catch a whiff of waterway.  To coincide with the transformation and new beginnings of Hudson Yards, Bond No 9, and perfumer Laurice Rahme created this fresh new scent.

Bond No. 9 Hudson Yards is a beautiful floral scent, and is described as “…is a luminous melange of dewy petals piled upon petals.” At first spray, you’re met with notes of lily of the valley, mingled with fresh and innocent freesia and piquant pink peppercorns, which then transitions into a dewy floral bouquet of peony buds and Bulgarian rose— enhanced by the addition of wine-like lychee.   Hudson Yards has great longevity, and by the end of the day, you’re left to experience woody-citrusy orange flower, iris absolute and white musk.

Perfume bottles should always look as good as the scent and Bond No. 9’s Hudson Yards isn’t lacking there.  The stand-out, contemporary, shimmering, near-neon, iridescent chartreuse is gorgeous, and is probably one of the most beautiful bottles in my fragrance collection.  The bottle also has laser-etched Bond No. 9 pattern in a circular signature token.  The show-stopper is the cloth flower blossom that serves as the cap, colored in the same chartreuse – similar to the green fantasy rose that James Joyce imagines in A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man.

Overall, Bond No 9 Hudson Yards is the perfect addition to my fragrance collection. It’s a light floral scent that isn’t overpowering, and lasts throughout the day.  Bond No. 9 Hudson Yards is fun; it’s flirty, and fresh.   It also makes a great gift for a young, New York City mom like me.

Bond No. 9 Hudson Yards scent is available in 100 ml/$285; 50 lm/$200; body silk, $135; candle, $115; liquid silk, $95; refillable pocket spray, $95.

Review: tarte LipSurgence Lip Glosses Come in Perfect Spring/Summer Shades

Disclosure: Product was provided for free for review consideration. All opinions are my own, and are honest. Affiliate Links.

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss
I am a lip stick/lip gloss junkie. Whether it’s something nude and natural, bright or bold, my lips are always donned in something that will either make them shine, stay moisturized or just stand out.  I love tarte products, especially their lip products.  I am happy to share with you the New tarte LipSurgence Lip Glosses tarte released as part their Summer Collection.

What are the tarte LipSurgence Lip Glosses?

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss is inspired by tarte’s award-winning lip tints. The tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss provides the benefits of a gloss and tint without being sticky on the lips. Infused with vitamin E, jojoba seed oil and flower extract, this multi-tasking formula helps smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles while moisturizing dry lips for a healthy, plumped-up appearance that lasts.  The applicator tip of the LipSurgence Lip Gloss features an ergonomic tip to provide easy application of the gloss.

Ingredients: vitamin E: natural preservative that also acts as an anti-inflammatory emollient & antioxidant; jojoba seed oil: natural soothing extract that leaves lips soft, supple & smooth; flower extract: moisturizes for healthy, hydrated lips.

My Thoughts on the tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss

I love the variety of shades the tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss comes in; there’s literally a shade for everyone.  The shade range has your brights and neutrals, but nothing overpowering since they go on pretty sheer, which makes them perfect to wear alone or over your favorite lipstick.

The tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss is not as sticky as some other lip glosses that I have in my stash, which is great.  They also have amazing shine.  However, I did not find that they were long lasting.  I found myself re-applying after drinking my morning tea  or eating.

The ergonomic tip definitely allowed for easier application of the gloss. It went on smoothly, and I was able to apply the tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss as close to the edge and corners of my lips as possible without it becoming messy.

The tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss has a vanilla scent that dissipates after a few minutes.  I don’t care for vanilla scents at all, but this doesn’t bother me too much.

The tarte LipSurgence glosses come in nine natural-looking, glossy shades: flush, blushing bride, tipsy, blissful, fearless, natural beauty, exposed, true love, and limited edition shade: Park Avenue Princess.

Flush, Blushing Bride, Fearless and Bissful are my favorite shades from this collection. I found that the creamier shades (Blushing Bride, Blissful & Tipsy) applied streaky, but after some manipulation, it looked good.  I also found that True Love settled into the lines on my lips, which didn’t look well, in my opinion.

If you’re looking for a tinted lip gloss, that is non-sticky, hydrates and moisturizes, I’d recommend picking up at least one of the tarte Lipsurgence Lip Gloss.  Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss costs $19.00 /0.27 fl oz and can be purchased from tartecosmetics.com or Sephora/Sephora.com
