The Makeup Show New York Sunday, May 16th

I am super excited to attend The Makeup Show for the first time.  My post over two months ago, I wasn’t sure if I was going to go both days.  Since I work during the week, I am only going to attend on Sunday, May 16th.

On Sunday, I will attend Makeup Artist, Jon Hennessy’s “Perfect Skin” Workship (Sold Out).  It begins at 2:00pm, which gives me more than enough time to browse & shop the booths.

Workshop Description:

Creating the perfect canvas is essential for every application. This event is a concentrated look at color correction, concealing, foundation and contour and how to perfect those techniques with various products. You will Concentrate on developing an understanding of various foundation, powder and concealer types and formulations, their effects and versatility as well as exploring methods  for shaping and contouring and shaping the face to bring out the nest of your clients features.

I will be sure to take plenty pictures to post here on my blog, as well as write a review.

If any of you will be there, let me know :o)

Recipe: Thick & Chewy Nutella White Choc Chip Walnut Cookies

I know this has nothing to do with beauty, but just as makeup makes you look & feel good, so do treats like cookies.  I tried this recipe (source)out last week so I figured I’d share it with you. If you’re a fan of Nutella or Ferrer Rocher, you’ll love these cookies.  To Die For (TDF)!

  • 2 1/8 cups all-purpose flour (2 cups plus 2 tablespoons)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted and cooled until warm
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup nutella
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups White Choc Chips (you can use milk chocolate or dark if you prefer)
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts
  • Directions

    1. 1.  Heat oven to 325 degrees. Line a 20 x 14 baking sheet without sides with parchment paper. Mix flour, salt and baking soda together in a medium sized bowl. Set aside.
    2. 2.  With electric mixer, mix butter and sugars until thoroughly blended. Mix in Nutella, egg, yolk and vanilla extract. Add dry ingredients; mix until just combined. Stir in chips.
    3. 3.  Form 1/4 cup dough into ball. Holding ball using fingertips of both hands, pull into two equal halves. Rotate halves 90 degrees and with jagged surfaces exposed, join halves together at their base, again forming a single cookie, being careful not to smooth dough’s uneven surface.
    4. 4.  Place formed dough onto sheet, about nine balls per sheet. (Smaller cookie sheets can be used but fewer cookies can be baked at one time and the time may need to be adjusted).
    5. 5.  Bake until cookies are light golden brown and outer edges start to harden, yet centers are still soft and puffy, 15 to 18 minutes (start checking at 13 minutes). (Frozen dough requires an extra 1 to 2 minutes baking time.) Cool cookies on sheets. Store in an airtight container.
    6. NOTE: I used a medium icecream scoop (see picture above) to portion out the dough instead of shaping it by hand as described above. The cookies came out a little smaller than the giant 1/4 cup size, but they still looked great. They will deflate a little as they cool so keep that in mind when determining baking time.

    Warm Weather (Summer) Must Haves

The weather is becoming increasingly warmer & nicer here in NYC & other states of course.   It’s just a taste of what this summer has to offer. It’s best to be prepared for when it actually hits.  It’s time for some summer beauty shopping!

    Simplify Your Beauty Routine

As I’m sure you all know, your beauty regimen should change from season to season. What works for you during the winter usually isn’t what you should be using in the summer.

    1. Groomed Eyebrows – Eyebrows shape your face & can make a world of difference on how you look.

    2. Tinted Moisturizer with SPF (I use MUFE Face & Body sometimes or Artistry’s Tinted Moisturizer -$22)

    3. Lipgloss with SPF – Protect your lips & look good at the same time.  Wearing lip gloss can actually increase your risk of skin cancer, because the shinyness makes UV rays hit harder!

    4. Bronzer – to give you a nice glow & sunkissed complexion. MUA Sam Fine suggests Covergirl Queen Collection’s Brown & Ebony Brown Bronzer for brown skinned women, which are affordable at $8 each.

    5.  Waterproof concealer – Cover dark circles or blemishes with something that won’t budge even if you sweat or take a swim.  I use MUFE’s Full Cover Concealer since it’s waterproof.

    6. Don’t forget your waterproof Mascara! –  Max Factors 2000 Calorie Xtreme has always been my fave. I move between a few others now & then.

    Sunscreen

You must, must wear sunscreen, especially if you know you’ll be outdoors. Use at least an SPF 30 for prolonged exposure, and be sure to reapply every couple hours and whenever you come out of the water and towel off.

I love Aveeno’s Continuous Protection Sunblock Spray SPF50.

    Have A nice bronzed Body

Since last summer, I’ve been using Carol’s Daughter Gelee de Soleil
SPF 15 Browning Oil ($15).  This stuff works.  I get a nice bronzy glow with it.  The great thing about it is you only need a little.

Protect Your Eyes from the Sun

Get a cool pair of shades that frame & fit your face well.  Make sure they represent you & your style.  Most importantly the UV protection should be high.

I have these Fly Chain Shades from Accessories Remix (Value $150)

I’m going to Florida this weekend. I’m definitely bringing these things along with a hot bathing suit of course!

What are your essential items for the summer?

    42 Beauty/Makeup Questions Answered

    1) How many times do you wash your face daily? Twice; in the morning, and evening.
    2) What skin type do you have? Combo oily

    3) What is your current facial wash? Dove Beauty Bar (remove makeup), and Clean & Clear Continuous Control Acne Cleanser
    4) Do you exfoliate? I exfoliate at least twice a week with a honey/aspirin mask (homemade), and I sometimes use the Proactiv Mask.
    5) What brand do you use? see above

    6) What moisturizer do you use? I use Cetaphil, MAC’s Oil Control Lotion, Clinique’s Moisture Surge, or Graftobian’s Oxyderm.  The one I use depends on whether or not I’m wearing makeup.

    7) Do you have freckles? Nope

    8) Do you use eye cream? Yes, MAC MoistureLush

    9) Do you or did you have acne prone skin? Nope not really. I use acne cleanser for prevention purposes.

    10) Did you ever have to use Pro-Activ? I did use it, but it wasn’t a must. I stopped using it.  It’s horrible for your skin; dries it out & it stops working after a while.

    MAKE UP

    11) What foundation do you use? I very rarely use foundation (see my FAQ tab).  When I do, I use Graftobian’s HD, MUFE HD, MUFE Face & body.

    12) How about concealer? MAC studio Finish, MUFE HD & their full coverage, and I just started using Eve Pearl’s dual Salmon Concealer.  I love it so far.

    13) Do you know your undertone color? Yellow/Golden undertones
    14) What do you think of fake eyelashes? I love falsies! Jut not for everyday wear.  I love to use them when I’m going out at night.

    15) Did you know you were supposed to change your mascara every 3 months? Yes

    16) What brand of mascara do you use? Revlon, MAC, and YSL (I’ll get back to you on the names)

    17) Sephora or Mac? I only like MAC for their E/S, MSF Natural, and lip products.   Other than that, I’d venture to Sephora. I don’t because Ihave a discount for most of the brands they carry, so I just order from the brand itself.
    18) Do you have a Mac Pro card? Yes! Worth it especially if you’re an MUA. Makeup is expensive.  I have other Pro cards as well.

    19) What makeup tools do you use in makeup application? Brushes, and sponges. A Mixture of MAC, Sigma, crown, and Coastal Scents.

    20) Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes? I use UDPP for the most part.  I picked up Benefits new primer.  I use NYX Jumbo E/P as well as MAC’s paintpots as bases.
    21) For the face? I use MUFE All Mat

    22) What is your favourite eyeshadow? I would have to say Expensive Pink & Bronze by MAC. I definitely over-use those two.

    24) How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil? Never
    25) What do you think of pigment eye shadows? Love them! I use a variety by MAC.

    26) Do you use mineral makeup? MAC’s MSF Natural if that counts

    27) What is your favourite lipstick? I’ve just started using lipsticks.  I’d say Show Orchid, Girl About Town, Bronzilla, and Honeyflower.  All MAC Lipsticks.
    28) How about lipgloss? Nymphette, Queen Bee (discontinued), C-thru

    29) What is your favourite blush to use? MAC Format, NYX Orange Crème Rouge Blush

    30) Do you buy your makeup on Ebay? I never have, I’m kinda scared of fakes, lol!

    31) Do you like drugstore makeup? Sometimes
    32) Do you go to CCO’s? Nope

    33) Did you ever consider taking makeup classes? Yes.  I want to learn how to do airbrush.
    34) Are you clumsy in putting on makeup? No.

    35) Name a makeup crime that you hate? Crimes I hate are as follows: Mismatched foundation, too obvious [black] lip liners, not blending eyeshadows, super large falsies in the daytime.

    36) Do you like colorful shades of makeup (lipstick or eyeshadow) or neutral ones? I like both, I tend to use colors more cause they’re more fun and I get easily bored with neutrals

    37) Which celebrity always has great makeup? I like Kim Kardashian’s (Mario does a great job on her).

    38) If you could leave the house using just ONE makeup item, what would you use? Lip gloss

    39) Could you leave the house without any makeup on? Yes, believe it or not, most of the time I do.
    40) Do you think you look good even without any makeup on? I do, makeup is just an accessory to me.

    41) In your opinion what is the BEST makeup line? Make Up For Ever

    42) What do you think of makeup? I like experimenting with it and coming up with different combinations. I also feel so much more put together with makeup.
