Review: Eucerin Daily Skin Balance Skin-Fortifying Body Lotion

Description (source):

A variety of external elements, like pollution and climate changes can weaken the skin’s protective barrier, affecting your skin’s health over time. Eucerin Daily Skin Balance — Skin-Fortifying Body Lotion ($9.99) helps balance skin’s natural pH level to enhance its natural defenses. Its patent-pending formula with provitamin B5, glycerin and a pH5 buffer provides all day moisturization while strengthening your skin’s protective barrier against external elements.

  • Enhances Skin Health
  • Strengthens Skin’s Protective Barrier
  • Fast Absorbing
  • Provides 24 Hour Moisturization
  • Lightly Fragranced

My Thoughts:

The product is relatively thin, and it spreads quickly and evenly.  Though it does spread over the skin quite easily, this lotion leaves behind an unpleasant sticky/greasy film.  There’s nothing I hate more than applying lotion and then feeling like I’ve got to go wash it all off in order to touch anything.  It didn’t even leave my skin feeling moisturized, just sticky.

Eucerin claims that the Eucerin Daily Skin Balance Skin-Fortifying Body Lotion is “lightly fragranced;” I disagree. The first thing I noticed about this lotion is the heavy perfume smell that lingers for some time.  The thing that keeps me from purchasing a moisturizer/lotion most are scents and this was a scent I just couldn’t get past.  Plus, when wearing an actual perfume this lotion would clash, and alter the scent of the perfume.

Another thing about this lotion is it started to break me out in little hives, and made me itch. No good!  I’m  not sure if it’s because of the scent or some other ingredient, but, I stopped using it after I noticed this was the root cause of the small rashes, and itchiness I was suffering on my body.

Do I recommend?

No.  If you are like me, and dislike highly fragranced lotions, and products that leave a sticky residue, I would not suggest you purchase this.

My favorite Eucerin product that actually works well in keeping my skin moisturized, dissolves quickly without the greasy/sticky film, and is unscented, is the Eucerin Plus Smoothing Essentials Lotion.

INGLOT! The brand everyone flocks to at The Makeup Show, is an affordable, high-quality cosmetics brand.  They have over 240 stores across the globe; Seven of their stores are in the United States (two in NYC).

Thursday,  February 17 Janique (HerGoodyBag.com) and I went to the Inglot New York Studio Grand Opening Party, which is located on the 5th floor of the Chelsea Market building with a beautiful view of the city.  Between 5 & 6PM there was a private press preview in which makeup artist James Vincent gave a tour of the studio.   He gave us a brief history of the brand; they’ve been around for 20 years, and their nail polish was used in Lady Gaga’s most recent video for her song “Born this way.” He also mentioned his favorite products, and how he likes to use them.

For instance, Liquid Blush – James Vincent applies it before foundation to give the look of glowing from within.

I also learned that the mixing station, next to the freedom system is the most common area used since it allows people to re-create their favorite product/color from another brand that may be discontinued.

This was a great event.  We had the opportunity to swatch products, buy the products we loved with a 20% discount.  There were different stations where you were allowed to get glammed up by having your hair, makeup and nails done.  For people who wanted to have their finished looks documented, and show it off later they had the opportunity to do a mini photo shoot!

Of course, there were swag bags.   There were different bags for regular attendees and for press.  Both bags were filled with Inglot products.

My bag included a lot of items I wanted to try prior to attending the event, such as the Under Makeup Base, Pigment, Lip Paint, Polish, and lip stick. I will definitely post swatches and a do a review. Products that I have and do love are their liquid illuminators, gel liners, and eyeshadows.

This is my NOTW (mani done during the event)

I’m not really a fan of metallic polishes, but, I LOVE how this came out on me.  It dried quickly, and three days later it still looks the same; no chips or fading.

Are you an INGLOT fan?

If so, what are your favorite products?

Big thanks to Melody Joy PR for the invite!

China Glaze to Release an Array of Crackle Polishes

China Glaze, like Barry M and OPI are set to release their version of shatter/crackle polish – Crackle Glaze.  They didn’t stop at one, they went all out and are releasing a wide range of crackle colors to dramatize your nails.

China Glaze Crackle will be available starting  this month at Sally’s Beauty Supply in 12 piece displays and 3 pack color kits which will include a base color, a crackle glaze (Black Mesh, Broken Hearted or Crushed Candy) and a China Glaze Top Coat.

Cracked Concrete (grey crackle
Broken Hearted (pink/fuschia crackle)
Lightening Bolt (white crackle)
Fault Line (purple crackle)
Crushed Candy (teal/turquoise)

I like that the crackle is available in more than one color, which allows more versatility and range than the other shatter/crackle polishes.  As with the other products, these Chine Glaze Crackles can be used over all types of polish, such as glitter,  metallics,  creams etc.  I am hoping to score at least one or two of these shades (minus the black since I already have the Barry M Instant Nail Effects).

These trendy nail lacquers are available through salons and professional beauty supply stores nationwide.

Tips on Preventing Breakouts

At some point in our lives we’ve all suffered from a breakout here and there. If you’re one of the lucky ones who hasn’t I HATE you! .:just kidding:.

Here are some tips that will help you limit and prevent the number of breakouts you experience.

1.  Wash your face at least twice a day (no more) with warm water.  Over washing can dull and damage your skin.

2.  Exfoliate at least once per week to remove dead skin cells.

3.  If you use a face cloth to wash your face, stay away from colored cloths; try sticking with white.  The dye’s used can be a cause of your breakout.

3.  Never use the same rag on your face that you do on your body!  Your face should be the cleanest part of your body, and you shouldn’t spread germs from other areas (anus, vagina, armpits) onto your face.

4.  Try keeping your hair off of your face. Oils and chemicals from the products you use may be the cause of your breakouts.

5.  Use non-comedogenic products. These products do not clog pores.

6.  If you workout or tend to sweat often, wash the sweat off of your face. Use a facial cleansing wipe. I tend to use baby wipes.

7. Don’t pop your pimples.  You pose the threat of spreading germs onto other areas of your skin.

8.  See your dermatologist to develop a skincare treatment plan that works specifically for you.

9.  Don’t touch your face.

10.  Take your vitamins.

11.  Drink water.  Keep your skin hydrated.

12. Eat Healthy (more fruits and vegetables).

13.  Makeup wearers, sanitize your makeup, and clean your brushes often.

What are some things that have worked for you when you suffered from breakouts?
