Sneak Peak: MAC Bloggers’ Obsessions

Yesterday, I revealed to you what I came across in Nylon Magazine about a collection being released by MAC that was made by a group of specially chosen beauty bloggers. If you missed the post, click here.

On behalf of Aileen, the beauty blogger from Shades of You, below are the pictures of the collection.  Check her site for more information on the process, and her inspiration for selecting her shade of lipglass named Sonoran Rain.

Other bloggers who were featured are: Lianne Farbes – The Makeup Girl| Karen – Makeup & Beauty Blog | Wendy – Nitrolicious | Ellen Mirza – Lipstick Powder Paint

I think it’s great that MAC is embracing bloggers in this way.  Other companies should definitely follow suit.

Sneak Peak: Wear Your Favorite Beauty Bloggers’ Customized MAC Cosmetics Products

Nylon Magazine (July 2011) has revealed that nine LUCKY beauty bloggers were chosen to not only tour the MAC cosmetics factory, but were able to create their very own, self-customized product!  This all went down in April.  I was immediately jealous and happy for them all, at the same time.  Like I said, nine were chosen, however, only four of the bloggers were featured in the article.  Of course Afrobella‘s Patrice Yursik, and Temptalia‘s Christine Mielke were two of the nine selected.  The other two featured in the article were Beauty Maverick‘s Lily Nima, and Beauty Blogging Junkie‘s Amber Katz.  Each blogger had the opportunity to create either a lipglass or eyeshadow.

The one product that I am looking forward to purchase is Afrobella’s “All of My Purple Life”, which she hopes to be  “the perfect purple for women of color.”

Temptalia created an emerald green eyeshadow, inspired by a vintage earing, which she’ll call “Jealousy Wakes.”

Beauty Maverick created a persimmon-colored lipglass named “Caqui”, inspired by artwork from Eugenio Recuenco.

Beauty Blogging Junky created a brownish bronze eye shadow with flicks of gold glitter that she named “Sparkle nealy, sparkle”.  This shadow was inspired by Valley of the Dolls.

All nine products will be available for purchase on Maccosmetics.com beginning June 21, 2011

Review: Twisted Sista Blow Drying Creme

My Thoughts:

Twisted Sista blow-drying crème, by Urban Therapy did not disappoint.  Its description states, “the blow drying crème gives your hair new structure and shape, controlling and straightening as it controls and relaxes your hair”.   Well, it did just that.  The product, which is more like a clear gel substance with a light refreshing scent, was used on my niece’s hair.  Her hair was previously relaxed which caused damage and breakage.  So this product seemed to be a perfect fix to achieve a nice silky straight look with out the harsh chemicals.

First, her hair was washed and conditioned. After, it was towel dried and left damp.  Twisted Sister was applied to her hair and then blow-dried.  While blow-drying, I could see how it left her hair soft straight and more manageable.

Once her whole head was blow dried, her hair was flat ironed.  The results were remarkable.  Her hair was silky smooth and flowing.  The product didn’t leave her hair dry and brittle like other products I have used.   It seemed to make her hair looked healthy.

Will I recommend?

I will definitely use this product and recommend it to family and friends.  Especially those who want to achieve a straight relaxed look with he use of harsh chemicals.  The product is also affordable, priced at $4.49, you can’t beat that price with those results.

Where to purchase: Twisted Sista Shop, Walgreens, Duane Reade, Target, Rite Aid, and Harris Teeter

Have you tried any Twisted Sista products?

What were your thoughts?

Dislaimer: This product was sent for review by a PR company.  I have no affiliation with this brand, and have not received any compensation.  This is my honest opinion/review.

James Vincents ‘Must-Have’ Beauty Items

Saturday evening, 80 of NY’s top bloggers joined James Vincent of The Powder Group, at the Metropolitan Pavilion for The Makeup Show’s blogger preview.  James 1st thanked us bloggers for coming, as well as acknowledged how important we are.

During this preview, Mr. Vincent not only gave us insight into what to expect at The Makeup Show on Sunday and Monday, he also talked about the newly added features, such as the career floor and pro pods, and the newest exhibitors, NARS, Kevyn Aucoin, and Yves Saint. Laurent.  James Vincent, after letting us all know about the above, he shared his ‘favorite things’ along with a description of why they were his faves.  Like Oprah, we all got one of the items (not all, but most).

Among those items were products from Ruby Kisses by Kiss Cosmetics.

Makeup artist kit must-have, and cult favorite, samples from Embryolisse.

Brush Cleaners from Cinema Secrets and Parian Spirit.

Make Up For Ever’s NEW Aqua Liner.

MAC Cosmetic’s Russian Red lipstick

OCC Lip tar’s, pigment, and glitter

Mehron’s cream foundation

The Powder Group’s Clear Soft pack (Set is on-sale for $45).

He uses the Mario Badescu Summer Shine Body Lotion on set to give the model a natural glow that comes from within. I love the very light pina colada scent it has as well.

Kevyn Aucoin’s white pencil is used for many different things, such as adding highlights to the face, as an eyeshadow base, and to create a smoky eye.

On Makeup as well as Makeup Artist magazines are must-haves for any makeup artist, from beginner to experienced.

And more…

My favorite product that he sppoke about (we didn’t get) was the makeup bag (see below) from the London Brush Company.  It is light weight, yet large enough to hold your complete kit, including brushes.  The only thing I would change is the color.  James also said if the kit you’re carrying needs a suitcase, you have too much stuff in it.
