The Makeup Show Holiday Pop-up Shop Haul

Saturday, December 3, 2011 I attended The Makeup Show’s Holiday Pop-up shop.  I arrived late, around 3 p.m. since I had mommy duties to attend to beforehand.

I arrived just in-time to see celebrity makeup artist, James Vincent giving a seminar “Beauty for All Ages.”

Description:

As client’s age, their skin and their makeup needs change with them. This critical event will help you understand how to maximize your knowledge of product and make you look their most radiant at any age. Celebrity Artist James Vincent gives insight into the products and application that has led him to work with personalities ranging from Lady Gaga and Liv Tyler to Joan Jett and Barack Obama and can keep you looking your best.

What I learned….

I learned that he sometimes uses kool-aid as a cheek color.

He always lines lips with a skin tone lip pencil so when the lip color fades you’re not left with a color-lined lip.

He applies liner after he does the mascara.

There was a lot more, but, I would suggest taking one of the pro seminars to learn more tricks.

I didn’t get much from the pop-up shop.  I stayed within my budget as well.

Dermalogica cleansing system $22
Lucas' Pawpaw ointment, Face to Face Matt Anti Shine, eyelash curler
Kissable Couture Glosses $9 each

The Bunny Collection is perfect for vegans and those who prefer to use all synthetic brushes. It was designed to deliver perfect makeup application using all synthetic brushes, and utilizes Sigma’s exclusive Sigmax HD fibers, which guarantee perfect makeup placement without product absorption into the bristles.

The Bunny Collection features a full-size and travel-size kit. The full-size kit ($109),  contains 12 brushes from Sigma’s Essential Kit and the travel-size kit ($59),  contains seven best-selling brushes from the Essential kit (E30 Pencil, E40 Tapered Blending, E55 Eye Shading, E65 Small Angle, F30 Large Powder, F40 Large angled Contour, and F60 Foundation). Both kits come in a functional container that turns into two brush holders to keep you stylish, organized and vegan-friendly!

If you’re into funky colors, the Mrs. Bunny kit is perfect for you.  Personally, I prefer the toned down, simplistic, classic Mr. Bunny.

Will you pick up either of these sets?

They are the perfect gift for makeup lovers!

Review: Body By Brooklyn Spa

Body by Brooklyn, is a sprawling all-day spa and oasis in my Brooklyn neighborhood.  It is literally a less than 10-minute walk right down my block.  Talk about convenient!

My very first visit to Body By Brooklyn was at the end of October.  I had taken my husband for a surprise spa day for his birthday, which included a one-hour couples aroma therapy massage,  30 minutes (turned into 1-hour) and champagne in the VIP suite, and access to the wet lounge.  I thought that this would break my pockets, but, it was actually really affordable.

We got undressed, and waited for the masseuse for about 3 minutes.  Our masseuse took us into the room, very similar to the one seen above.  Very clean, spacious and relaxing. Both masseurs were females, were very nice and accommodating, especially my masseuse  (her name slips my mind right now).   Before getting my massage, I was asked what my favorite scents are, I chose peppermint and lemongrass.  My husband said he wasn’t asked anything, his lady just got down to business.

If you don’t know, I breast feed,  which means I may leak some milk out.  I left my bra on loosened at the back so she was able to have access.  My masseuse reassured me that Body by Brooklyn is breast feeding friendly, and told me she’d just put a towel down, and I shouldn’t worry about any leaking. Everything is changed and cleaned anyway.

The massage went well.  The hour flew, and both my husband and I fell asleep during the treatment.  It was good.  I can’t say it was the best massage I’ve had, but, it was good.

After the massage was over we waited for the VIP suite to be ready for us.  We waited in the lounge area, and had one drink.  I had blackberry margarita, my husband had a mimosa.  The drinks were okay, and a little pricey.  We’re living in the moment…right? Why not.  The drinks were charged to our locker key, so there’s no need to carry cash around.

So back to the suite.  The suite has a jacuzzi, shower/steam stall, personal bathroom, large flat screen tv, dimmer… all of the romantic stuff.  The jacuzzi was filled with fake rose petals.  The water was a little  too hot, but, Jeremy (I think that was his name) fixed it.  We ended up receiving a 1-hour stay in the suite, since we were waiting so long (like 30 minutes), and a free bottle of champagne, and extra bath salts.  We stayed in there for the full hour with no interruptions.  After our time was up we showered, got dressed and walked back home.

We did not use the steam room, since I am nursing, I can’t use anything that will release toxins into my system, which the steam room would have done.  Plus, it was very crowded that day; there was a large group of girls there.

Overall, we enjoyed our time there, especially my husband.  Since it’s so close to us, we will definitely visit again.

Special thanks to Karma for making this day a great one for my husband and I.

Event Recap: Kitty Bradshaw’s Favorite Things Meet and Tweet

Kitty Bradshaw Signature Gift box

*10% of the proceeds from the sale of the Kitty Bradshaw Signature Gift Box are going to Lower Eastside Service Center.

Tuesday, November 29, 2011, I attended Kitty Bradshaw’s meet and tweet, at the nRelate offices.  This event, like most of her events was to benefit the bloggers in attendance (see other post) in order for us to network and build relationships with other companies and people.  This is what I love about Kitty, she is always doing something to help other people.  She’s not selfish with her success in blogging.  Anyway, enough with the mushy stuff.

There were about 45 bloggers in attendance from all areas of the blogosphere. Some were familiar faces, such as the ladies from OSoChic, Temple of Glam, Her GoodyBag, Shoshi, Mr. Sykes, Lisa M. Barr … sorry if I missed someone.  There were thirteen sponsors, and one charity.  Every sponsor had the opportunity to introduce themselves & their brand.  It was pretty cool learning about each brand and the brains behind it.

There were a few that stuck out to me.  One being the Angel Street Thrift Shop (they sell high-end items), all purchases and donations benefit the Lower Eastside  Service Center, Inc.,  a non-profit charity for substance abusers and individuals with mental health issues.  Check it out if you’re in the market for a new bag, coat, shoes – even furniture.

Small business owner, Enovia Bedford, owner of Accessory Remix spoke about her road to creating her brand.  I first met her at the Tribeca Retail Club’s Fashions Night Out where she had a booth.  I picked up a pair of her chain shades (see post).

Another favorite sponsor was Barefoot wine. If you are like me, and like the not so dry wines, you’re probably familiar with their nice tasting riesling and moscato.  At Kitty’s event,  there were bottles of their Brut Cuvee, which retails for $10.99/bottle, and t was good. I probably could have drunk an entire bottle myself.  I like this brand of wine because it’s good and affordable.  Too bad I’ve never seen the Brut Cuvee in my area.

Squeem Magical Lingerie began in Brazil 40 years ago.  This company interested me, especially being a new mom.  I do not have a crazy gut post baby, but, I am still a little self-conscious about whatever is there.  Squeem is the perfect undergarment to hold everything in its right place, and show-off the figure that was hiding.

I’m a makeup artist and beauty blogger, and love makeup, so learning about Pencil Me In Cosmetics, eyeliner pencils infused with vitamins and antioxidants, was interesting.

Love, Love the scent of the CND vanilla hand creams.  I recently polished my nails with the Plum Truffle Collection ($20).

Covergirl Queen shade #Q475 – Javalicious

Overall, it was a great event.  I loved the laid-back atmosphere, and meeting new people.  At the end of the event, everyone broke out to network (again), and pickup their swag bag full of items pictured above, and more. Other items not pictured includes Hair Clips by Goody Hair Accessories, Modern Courtesan Perfume in ‘Naughty New Yorker’ by Shoshi, Zebra Pens, and trial packets of dietary supplement Emergen-C just in-time for the cold & flu season.
I can’t wait for the blogger’s brunch in 2012!
