Forsaken by True Blood – My Favorite Show, True Blood has a Beauty Collection on HSN!!!

I have been obsessed with HBO’s True Blood vampire series since the beginning.  I am ecstatic to know that via HSN, on August 9th, HBO is launching Forsaken,  a unique collection of beauty products inspired by its Emmy® and Golden Globe® winning hit series True Blood.  This is just in-time for my birthday, too!

Mixing romance, suspense, mystery and humor, True Blood takes place in the not-too-distant future, when vampires have come out of the coffin, thanks to the invention of mass-produced synthetic blood that means they no longer need humans as a nutritional source.  The show follows the romance between waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), who can hear people’s thoughts, and her soul mate, 173-year-old vampire Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer).   Alan Ball (creator of the Emmy®-winning HBO series “Six Feet Under”) created and executive produces the show, which is based on the best-selling Sookie Stackhouse novels by Charlaine Harris.

The Forsaken beauty collection includes:

Review: Veet Ready-to-Use Wax Strips

Waxing is the best thing for me to do, especially since I am a mommy.  It takes up less time, and I don’t have to worry about hair for weeks or months at times.   When I received the Veet Ready-to-use Wax Strips, I was excited!

Description:

Veet introduces wax strips with HairCoating Technology – the wax that’s ready when you are. It is effective on short hair (2mm), so you don’t need to wait for smooth skin. Veet has specially formulated these wax strips to act like a liquid during application, coating different lengths of hair, even those as short as 2mm. When you remove the strip, the wax locks in the hair – for effective hair removal. Suitable for use on your legs, underarm and bikini area.  The result is smoothness that lasts up to 4 weeks!

Cost: $10.99 for 20-double sided pre-waxed strips, 6 perfect finish wipes.

 Directions

  1. Rub the wax strips between your hands to warm the wax.
  2. Slowly pull the strips apart.
  3. Apply the strips (toward the ankle, if using them on the legs) and rub repeatedly in the direction of the hair growth.
  4. Pull the strip back on itself very quickly and in 1 swift motion, keeping the strip as close to the skin as possible. Hold your skin taut to avoid discomfort.
  5. After waxing, remove any excess wax with a Perfect Finishing Wipes

My Thoughts

I first tried out the Veet Ready-to Use Wax Strips on my underarms one morning before heading out to work.  I didn’t have time to use my Bliss Poetic wax, and since the Veet Ready-to-Use Wax Strips are supposed to save time, I thought they’d be perfect to use remove some underam hair before work.  Boy was I wrong!

I followed the instructions carefully.  My underarms were clean and dry.  The wax strips picked up at least 4 hairs.  .:SMH:.  I tried using another strip, and received the same results.  I was left with a gooey mess under my arms.  I had to clean it off with the Perfect Finishing Wipes, which worked, and head to work.

I didn’t give up completely on the Veet Ready-to Use Wax Strips.  I told myself, maybe my underarm hairs were too coarse.  I ended up trying the product on my legs.  The hair on my legs are sparse, and fine.  I can go without waxing or shaving them for a long time.  For some reason, most of the hair on my legs are on my knees.  Weird, I know.  I ended up testing it there first.  I received the same results I had on my underarms on my legs.  Unfortunately, this product does not work.  I wish it had.  It would be a great product.  I’m happy it isn’t something I paid for, otherwise, I’d be really upset.

Would I recommend?

I would not recommend this product to anyone.  You’re better off shaving, using a depilatory cream or purchasing the Bliss Poetic Microwaveable wax (see my review).   The remaining strips I have are going in the garbage.

Have you tried the Veet Ready-to-Use Wax Strips?  If so, what did you think?

Review: ‘Geometric’ Jamberry Nails vinyl nail shields {Giveaway}

I was contacted by Heather Perry, and independent Jamberry Nails Consultant, to do a review of Jamberry Nails.  Jamberry Nails are heat-activated adhesive, vinyl nail shields.  Although the idea is similar, they are not to be confused with nail polish strips like Sally Hansen Nail Effects or Nail Frauds.

Jamberry Nails come in a variety of colors and designs for any occasion or holiday; we’re talking about over 200 designs.  There is something for everyone.

My thoughts:

With 200 designs, it was hard to choose one, but, I ended up getting ‘Geometric’.

With a little one it is hard to keep my nails polished or polished at all.  Prior to having my daughter I was a polish fiend (I still am, but I just don’t wear it as much).  Jamberry nails make keeping your fingers and toes stylishly kept, easy!  I love that they come in a variety of designs.  The choices are endless.  For someone like me who doesn’t have the time, or money to go to the salon and get fancy nail designs or do them myself, Jamberry Nails comes to the rescue.  Seriously, how do all of these nail bloggers have time to do those super cute and fab nail designs?  I’m always envious ..

I like that I don’t have to worry about drying time or chipping.  With a little one running around I can’t have wet finger nails for even a second.  I like that there is no chemical smell.

Application is a little tricky for the first time, but, it gets easier as you go along.  I applied Jamberry Nails to both hands on my index and ring fingers.  I used Milani High Speed Fast-Dry One Coat Nail Polish in Yellow Whiz on the remainder nails.   I work at an office, so I have to keep the crazy nails to a minimum.

I received a lot of compliments on my manicure from family, friends, co-workers, and strangers.  People asked if I did them myself with an art pen.  Even though I wanted to lie and say yes .. I told the truth and said it was a nail cover.  I wish I were that talented.

You get your monies worth!

Jamberry Nails come as a sheet of 18 individual strips.  You can cut them in half, and easily get 36 strips from one packet.  They are re-usable, too!  You just re-heat with the blow dryer, peel off, and place them back on the sheet.  You’ll also love that there is no residue or stickiness left behind, and your nail bed is left unharmed.

Would I recommend?

I like Jamberry nails.  They are durable, long-lasting, stylish, and affordable.
