Review: A Complete Melt-down – Kat Von D Lock n Load Setting Mist \

What it is:
A mist that extends the wear of makeup.

What it does:
Lock n’ Load is a weightless mist that locks down your look for up to 16-hours, so makeup stays rockin’ all day and night long. Its Temperature Control Technology prevents makeup from melting down when it’s warm and avoids dehydration and cracking when it’s cold. Ideal for all skin types, it won’t leave your skin feeling sticky or tight. It also works to prevent blush, eyeshadow, or lip color from fading, sliding, caking, or becoming excessively shiny.

My thoughts:

I was really excited to try this product, especially having heard so much about it, and I wanted to compare it to the Skindanavia Makeup Finish Spray, which I reviewed and LOVED! After reading many reviews on how amazing the Kat Von D Lock n Load Setting Mist was, I was surprised to experience a big let-down. I must say that I am disappointed that it didn’t work for me, and I really wanted it to.

I tried applying the product as directed, which is spraying it on your face after applying your makeup. I also tried applying it the way the Skindinavia finish works, which is spraying it before you apply and afterward. Both ways did not work in setting my makeup. I used it over my tinted moisturizer and liquid foundation. I have oily skin as well, and at the end of 2-3 hours my skin looked oily. The makeup was nowhere to be seen on my nose. As the day went on, my face just looked undone & mucky.

When sprayed, the product doesn’t really come out as a fine mist as described. I do like that it does’t leave your skin feeling sticky and tight, however, it does NOT mattify your face. I do not mind the cucumbery smell, but, if you despise cucumbers stay away.

Would I recommend:

Overall, this product, to me was moreso of a refreshing mist for a hot, humid summer day, and doesn’t live-up to making makeup stay-put for 16 hours. I’m not sure if it has to do with my skin being oily, but I can say that this product didn’t work for me. Just because it didn’t work for me, it may work for you.

Continuing my search for another great setting spray, I’d love to try Urban Decay’s All-Nighter or De-Slick for oily skin. I’ve read and heard so many great things about both. Hopefully, they do not disappoint.

Event Recap: FSL Cosmetics & Brooklyn Stone Boutique’s Pucker Up Event

On Saturday, June 11, 2011 Janique of HerGoodybag.com (see her event coverage HERE) and I stopped by the Brooklyn Stone Boutique for their “Pucker Up” event featuring FSL Cosmetics. During the event, Kimberly Riley from FSL Cosmetics gave mini lip makeovers, and you were also allowed to shop the exclusive styles sold at the boutique. I love showing support to black-owned businesses, especially women.

FSL Cosmetics, which stands for “Feel Good, Smell Good, Look Good,” is a line of natural lipsticks and lip glosses created by cosmetic engineer and chemist Kimberly Riley in 2009. She gave a detailed description of the line and the various botanicals used to create the lipsticks and glosses. Each lipstick and lip gloss has a distinct scent/flavor that will sure have your lips smelling good enough to eat! Some of the scents range from vanilla to chocolate to pina colada.

Both the lip glosses and lip sticks are hypo-allergenic and paraben free and created with an antioxidant-potent formula that will hydrate and protect the lips from the natural elements.

Review: Senna Cosmetics Form-A-Brow

Over the years, I have tried to correct my brows due to incorrect advice from an older sister who shall remain nameless. During High School, I had really nice pretty tamed eyebrows that looked even better after I received grooming through waxing or tweezing. The one thing I disliked about my eyebrows was the uneven tails. My older sister was around as I complained about them. And now that I think about it, it was a very tiny imperfection. She advised me to tweeze off the ends of my eyebrows and draw them on until they’ve grown back evenly. I didn’t think twice. “Honestly, when has your older sister steered you wrong?” So I did it, and I regret it, she hears about it every time she visits.

Over the years I’ve tried filling in my eyebrows with various pencils & powders and they never look the same whenever I do them.

Whenever Kim gets too many products to review, she asks that I review them and she knew that this was the perfect product for me to try out. Now, I could stop bugging her to do them whenever I go out (perks of having a make-up artist as your sister).

My thoughts:

The kit is pretty easy to use. Align your tear duct with the little arrow on the stencil, make sure that your brow and the brow cut out are even and begin! Choosing the correct blend was a little tricky at first. I had to try a few times before I achieved the correct shade. I was amazed at how it enhanced my brows and they did not drawn on. It looked completely natural.

Pros

Easy to use stencils and the 3 colors allow you to achieve the correct color that matches your features. It enhanced my already groomed brows. You achieve optimal results when used correctly.

Cons

Holding the stencil gets pretty annoying. It shifts; I have to hold my hands in awkward positions. No brow set or grooming kit! For $45, it should include this. What’s the point of making beautiful brows with this product and it doesn’t come with a solution to keep your brows in tact all day.

This product is going to last me a long time because I only do my brows when I have time or on special occasions.

Would I spend $45 on this product? I don’t think so. It’s a little expensive for what you get. Include a little bit more and I would definitely consider replacing this one when it’s done.
