Makeup By Kim Porter

Event Recap: Beautiful Textures Press Event

Earlier this week I attended the Beautiful Textures Press Event presented by The Garner Circle, which took  place at the posh Tribeca Grand Hotel.

Beautiful Textures is designed specifically for women with mixed textured hair including curly, wavy, kinky-coily, and frizzy hair textures.   Bloggers like myself, Hergoodybag.com, Lipstick.Fashion.Mascara, and Style and Doctor Beauty  were in attendance enjoing an evening of curls, coils and cocktails as we watched  live hair demonstrations by natural hairstylist, Kimberly Walker (Tress Talk).

We also received a formal introduction to the collection by Strength of Nature Global Marketing Director, Charlene Bastien, which was a nice touch.

Kim did a great job with Toni’s hair.  The two strand flat twists to the side.   It looked even more amazing after she took the twists down, and let Toni’s hair cascade down the side of her face.

I was excited to attend this event.  Although I do not have natural hair, I’ve contemplated ‘going natural’ without doing the “big chop” many times, especially after attending this event. However, I do like to follow the same routines and use some of the same products natural hair wearers use.  At the end of the day we all have the same goal, which is to have healthy hair.   I’m happy that these products will work on relaxed hair.

I learned a lot about properly caring for your hair no matter the texture.  I also learned that the most important time of hair care is when you’re shampooing. By choosing the correct shampoo for your hair type can mean the difference between great hair and so-so hair.

I can’t wait to try the products out and report to you on how they worked for my hair.  What I already love is that the products are super affordable – $7! A steal. Beautiful Textures will be available this winter at your local beauty, and haircare retailers.  Check http://www.BeautifulTextures.com for more information.

I hope to be able to do a giveaway for Beautiful Textures products in the near future.

Sponsored Review: L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara

L’ORÉAL PARIS ENCOURAGES WOMEN EVERYWHERE TO STOP “FAKING IT”
No woman should ever have to “fake it.” Whether it’s flashing a faux smile through a horrible date or flaunting fake lashes that are tricky, frustrating and time-consuming to achieve, L’Oréal Paris is encouraging thousands of women everywhere to join them in pledging to never fake it again. Because after all, any woman that’s experienced the real thing is sure to pass on faux forever.

About Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara:
From the creators of the cult-favorite Voluminous Mascara comes a breakthrough in fiber mascara technology. Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara reinvents the false eyelash look, making it possible to achieve the clean impact of professionally-applied false lashes.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara Features
  • Dual-length fiber formula
  • Exclusive polymer adheres fiber to lashes
  • Botanical waxes prevent hardening, crumbling or flaking
  • Precision brush ensures optimal application
  • Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers

My Thoughts:

I love full lashes, which is why I am a big fan of false lashes.  Now that I have an infant, I have hardly anytime to apply them, which is why I keep a few of my favorite mascaras with me in my purse and in my desk drawer at work.  You can’t ever have enough mascara, and as a beauty addict I love trying new things, especially a product that makes claims to give you the false lash look without applying a lash; a time saver.  I jumped on the opportunity to try out the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara.  I like the product, but, I am not in-love.  I do love the packaging though.  It looks like an expensive YSL product.

Pro’s

Lengthens

The wand makes application easier

Doesn’t flake

Great for sensitive eyes

You see results with 1 OR 2 coats. I normally use 3 with some others.

Cons

Clumps if you don’t work fast enough.  Thank God I mastered it quickly.

It has a chemical smell

I started using my Dior Show Lash Primer Maximizer Serum with it to help with the clumping issue too, and  to add, it made my lashes look like WHOA!!!

Do I recommend?

I would recommend this product because it does do what it says it would.

Below are some before and after pictures of me wearing the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara!

Designer quality, hand-picked lingerie at an affordable price!

I was recently contacted by an Adore Me representative.  I was a  little apprehensive since I have a hard time finding bras in my size, which is why I stopped purchasing bras from Victoria’s Secret, and began shopping at specialty stores like Intimacy.

Very few places, unless you shop online stores like Barenecessities.com or Figleaves, have bras for women like myself who have a small frame.  The representative reassured me that indeed, they do carry my size.  In fact, they carry up to size 40G in some styles.

Adore Me is the first lingerie website to offer personalized shopping that fits your style and your schedule.  I would  describe it as the Shoedazzle of lingerie.  If you’re familiar with Shoedazzle, you know how easy it is to sign-up.

You begin by taking our short and fun Style Quiz that allows us to fill your showroom with products based off of your preferences.  You have the option to buy them all or none (you are able to skip a month if you do not wish to purchase), each set is $39.95 with free shipping and exchanges.

Adore Me also appealed to me since I am a total online shopper; I only go to malls or stores if I have to.  I hate dealing with long lines, and rude, incompetent sales people.   Adore Me, has knowledgeable Stylists that can help you with any questions you may have about fitting and you won’t have to stand in line or be elbowed by angry customers.

Sign up now.  Once you have filled out the quiz, and taken a look at the personalized assortment they have to offer, the service doesn’t end there.  Every month, AdoreMe.com will introduce new styles into their inventory.   When they do, THEY will get in touch with YOU, with specific styles to suit your tastes.  All you gotta do is decide if you want to purchase any of it. What could be better than that?

NARS Modern Kabuki Holiday Sets

François Nars captures the high drama and exquisite artistry of Japan’s kabuki theater with five luxurious specialty sets.  Every detail is a vibrant, modern interpretation of the centuries old dramatic form. The  NARS holiday 2011 Collection  – a range of specially designed gifts that show the makeup guru’s deep interest in Japanese culture, and Kabuki makeup.

The collection, named Modern Kabuki, has a range of dramatic colours, with a lot of crimsons and golds – a reflection of Kabuki theatre. Everything down to the packaging has a Japanese inspiration, and I love the small detailing that has gone into the design of them all – especially the eyeshadow palette, which is packaged like a gift; something borrowed from the Japanese culture of gift-giving.

The collection  includes:

Nagauta Kabuki brush set, $225
Includes Kabuki Eye Brush (exclusive to the set), Botan Brush, Ita Brush, Yachiyo Brush, Kabuki Lip (exclusive to the set).  I love the style of the brush handle.

Kudoki Kabuki mini lip set, $125
includes lip shades, Kabuki lip brush, wooden box.

Hanamichi Kabuki–inspired eyeshadow palette, $65
Japanese for ‘flower path,’  the colours are evocative of shades found in Kabuki theater – an icy white with flowers in rich shimmering deep rose and gold and matte black. Also includes a  Mini Kabuki eye brush.

Mie Kabuki mini soft touch shadow pencil set, $55
Includes Tall Tale deep metallic purple, Magic Moon deep metallic navy blue, Ballets Russes silver, Aigle Noir black infused with gold shimmer, Palladium turquoise with silver glitter, Skorpios copper.

Kuroko Kabuki mini nail polish set, $35
Includes Yoshiwara red, Shiro–Nuri white, Kata black, Senryou gold.

If you’re feeling generous, you may pick up something from this collection for me 😉
