Dove Beauty Bar

Over the past few weeks I re-discovered Dove’s Beauty Bar.  I say re-discovered since I used to use it as a child when my skin wouldn’t tolerate harsh soaps like Lever 2000, Irish Spring, Zest etc.  Dove never broke me out or dried my skin.  Recently, I have been having breakouts on my forehead & the Proactiv didn’t even help.  Of course, I made an appointment with my dermatologist, but the day of my appointment, it SNOWED, so the office ended up cancelling my appointment. This reminds me I have to make another one.

Anyway, I started using Dove’s beauty bar (white bar soap).  I kid you not, this stuff has been working well with my skin.  I use it as a cleanser, and I use it to remove my makeup.  My skin did a 180, and it’s back to clear. My skin isn’t dry either.   Check Makeup Alley for reviews.

Here’s proof that it works:  I started using it for a few weeks, and after the bar ran out, I stopped using it.  Since I stopped, I notice I’m breaking out in the same spot again, which means I need to pick up some more!

Dove’s beauty bar can be found at your local drugstore.  You can even try your dollar store too.

Disclaimer:  Try this at your own risk.  What works for me may not work for everyone else.

My Favorite Scents Series: Whatever Lola Wants… Lola Gets Marc Jacobs Lola Perfume

Last week Wednesday, in the post titled, “My Favorite Scents Series: The Smell of Purple,” I introduced you to one of my favorite “signature” scents, which was Insolence by Guerlain.  This week, I’m going to introduce you to my second “signature” scent, which is Marc Jacobs’ Lola Perfume.

I love Marc Jacobs Lola perfume! I wear it when I want a nice, clean, crisp, fresh & flirty scent.  It’s perfect for daytime.  The only thing about it is I find that it doesn’t last too long.

Isn’t the bottle HOT though?  I purchased the  Marc Jacobs Lola Perfume after seeing promo’s for it one day I was in Bloomingdales in Midtown.  The sales women used the tops of the bottles as accessories; it was in their hair or used as a brouche

I purchased my 3.4 Fl oz bottle of Marc Jacobs Lola Perfume from Sephora using a gift card a friend gave me for my birthday. It was $85.

Next week, I will introduce you to my last “signature” scent. Yes, I saved the best for last.

International Beauty Show New York-Sunday, March 7, 2010

I went to the International Beauty Show (IBS) New York today for the very first time.  Sign-up/Registration started at 9:30 am, but I got there at 10:30, and the line was LOOOOONG!  Good thing it went by quickly.  First, I must say that this is just so overwhelming; so many different products & companies all in one place.  I wish I didn’t have to work Monday & Tuesday so I would be able to take it all in.  My back is sore, legs are tired, but  I had a good time.

The majority of the booths were for hair styling products, hair treatments, and hair tools. There were not many cosmetics booths, so I spent most of my time walking around, and buying stuff.  I did get a chance to stop by NYX Cosmetics, Naked, Becca, Jaguar International, Crown Brush, and Eve Pearl.  I caught Eve Pearl doing some makeup lessons, which was cool.  I can’t wait for The Makeup Show New York.  I will be in my full glory.  I’m going to start saving now, so when May 16/17th come, I can SPLURGE!!!

I also had the opportunity to get a $20 Calgel Manicure.   Yes, I took off the pretty China Glaze ‘For Audrey’ to get this! The ladies doing the nails couldn’t believe it either lol.  If you know about Calgel, you’ll know that’s a STEAL!!! You can get them here.  I got the french this time because I was trying it out. I love it! Next time I will try something a little more funkier.  I’ve been wanting to try these since last year because  a few friends of mine recommended them to me.  I only knew about the 86th street location, which is way too far to just get some nails done.  This lasts for 3-4 weeks. I was told the french lasts a little longer, which is great.  Once a week I take a non-acetone nail polish remover to remove the top coat, add a new layer to make it look nice & fresh.  That’s it, until I need a filling, which the lady said is $45.

You know I bought some stuff. I limited myself to spend $100.  I know if I took out anymore than that I would have spent it all!

I bought the following at the show:
NYX Cosmetics – $27
Orange Chrome Eeyshadow
Red Pink Eyeshadow
Azur Sky Eyeshadow
Extreme Black & Dark Brown Felt Tip Liner
Blotting paper
Lip liner in Purple rain, bloom, & pinky
Purple eyeliner
Jumbo Eye Pencil in Black Bean

Crown brush – $19
2 Fluffy Eyeshadow brushes
1 Kabuki Brush
1 Pack of Mascara wands
2 packs of sponges

Essie Nailpolish 6/$20
3-Way Glaze
Mesmerize
Chocolate kisses
Tart Deco
Mint Candy Apple
Chinchilly

Dashing Diva Nailpolish $2 each
True Color Base Coat
True Color Top Coat

Jane Carter Solutions Hair Products
Moisture Nourishing Shampoo $5 (reg $8)
Nutrient Replenishing Condition $5 (reg $14)
Scalp Nourishing Serum $10 (reg $14)
They also gave me free samples of the Nourish & Shine for hair & body 4 oz jar is $22 (similar to a butter but not greasy)

I’ll be sure to review the products I bought.  I’ll also do some swatches of the nail polishes too.

Review: Shobha Ingrown Relief Lotion

If you follow my blog, on twitter or know me personally, you will know that I love Shobha, and they are the only people I trust to do my brazillians.  Heck, I followed my waxer, karmjeet from Shobha SoHo to the Madison Avenue location, which is a little troop for me, but that’s how great she is.  Since, I am such a loyal customer, I was given this bottle of ingrown relief lotion during my latest visit during the end of January.  I said to myself, how can this help ingrowns?  Needless to say, I was a bit skeptical.  Low and behold, it worked!

I applied the cream religiously daily (48 hours after waxing) per the instructions. I stayed bare & smooth (still almost bare, yet still smooth) in my southern region for weeks with no ingrowns.  I would definitely recommend it to you if you get waxes like me.  I will buy  it when I run out.
