Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss
I am a lip stick/lip gloss junkie. Whether it’s something nude and natural, bright or bold, my lips are always donned in something that will either make them shine, stay moisturized or just stand out.  I love tarte products, especially their lip products.  I am happy to share with you the New tarte LipSurgence Lip Glosses tarte released as part their Summer Collection.

What are the tarte LipSurgence Lip Glosses?

Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss is inspired by tarte’s award-winning lip tints. The tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss provides the benefits of a gloss and tint without being sticky on the lips. Infused with vitamin E, jojoba seed oil and flower extract, this multi-tasking formula helps smooth the look of fine lines and wrinkles while moisturizing dry lips for a healthy, plumped-up appearance that lasts.  The applicator tip of the LipSurgence Lip Gloss features an ergonomic tip to provide easy application of the gloss.

Ingredients: vitamin E: natural preservative that also acts as an anti-inflammatory emollient & antioxidant; jojoba seed oil: natural soothing extract that leaves lips soft, supple & smooth; flower extract: moisturizes for healthy, hydrated lips.

My Thoughts on the tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss

I love the variety of shades the tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss comes in; there’s literally a shade for everyone.  The shade range has your brights and neutrals, but nothing overpowering since they go on pretty sheer, which makes them perfect to wear alone or over your favorite lipstick.

The tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss is not as sticky as some other lip glosses that I have in my stash, which is great.  They also have amazing shine.  However, I did not find that they were long lasting.  I found myself re-applying after drinking my morning tea  or eating.

The ergonomic tip definitely allowed for easier application of the gloss. It went on smoothly, and I was able to apply the tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss as close to the edge and corners of my lips as possible without it becoming messy.

The tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss has a vanilla scent that dissipates after a few minutes.  I don’t care for vanilla scents at all, but this doesn’t bother me too much.

The tarte LipSurgence glosses come in nine natural-looking, glossy shades: flush, blushing bride, tipsy, blissful, fearless, natural beauty, exposed, true love, and limited edition shade: Park Avenue Princess.

Flush, Blushing Bride, Fearless and Bissful are my favorite shades from this collection. I found that the creamier shades (Blushing Bride, Blissful & Tipsy) applied streaky, but after some manipulation, it looked good.  I also found that True Love settled into the lines on my lips, which didn’t look well, in my opinion.

If you’re looking for a tinted lip gloss, that is non-sticky, hydrates and moisturizes, I’d recommend picking up at least one of the tarte Lipsurgence Lip Gloss.  Tarte LipSurgence Lip Gloss costs $19.00 /0.27 fl oz and can be purchased from or Sephora/

Review: NYX Matte Bronzers are Perfect for My Brown Skin {Swatches}

NYX Matte Bronzer Review
Warmer weather means less makeup, and more skin.  Bronzers allow you to achieve a fresh face looked without much effort. Bronzers come in shimmer or matte shades, and can be powder, liquid or cream.

I’ve been using NYX Matte Bronzers since last January since they were one of the few affordable cosmetics brands that carried shades that would work for darker or brown skintones.  I purchased the NYX Matte Bronzers in shades ‘Dark Tan’ (deep warm brown) and ‘Deep Tan’ (deep golden brown).  Out of both shades I purchased, I used Deep Tan the most.  When it broke I became ill with sadness.  Deep Tan worked best for my complexion since Dark Tan is a tad bit too warm for my taste.

The NYX Matte Bronzers have zero shimmer, which make them perfect for girls with oily skin.  They pack a lot of pigment, but as long as you use a light hand, and blend you will be satisfied with the natural bronze look afforded by using it.

The NYX Matte Bronzers are very soft; however, they are powdery, and I did experience fall out, which can make them messy if you’re not careful.  Just tap off the excess before applying the NYX Matte Bronzer to your face to avoid any mishaps.  I also like how well the NYX Matte Bronzers blend into my skin with ease.

NYX Matte Bronzer Review Swatches

After applying the NYX Matte Bronzer in the morning, I find myself re-applying it at least 6 hours later, which is pretty decent wear, especially for the price.

I know people tend to use bronzers as contour, but I don’t since contour shades are supposed to be grayish or ashy, and these are too warm, especially the Dark Tan NYX Matte Bronzer.

I would recommend the NYX Matte Bronzers to anyone looking to achieve a natural, healthy-looking complexion.  At about $9.00 per 0.33 ounces at, they’re affordable compared to my NARS Bronzer*, which costs $38.00/ 0.28 ounces.  The NYX Matte Bronzers come in a clean, sleek black compact, and are available in five shades: Light, Medium, Deep, Dark Tan and Deep Tan.

Two LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers You Need in Your Skincare Arsenal Right Now!

LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers

I feel like I’m constantly speaking about how the rigid New York City winter weather has wreaked havoc on my skin.  Something can work for a month or two, and as soon as there is a fluctuation in temperature, my skin becomes temperamental. It’s frustrating.  Lately, I’ve been using two LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers, and my skin is asking me why I didn’t start to use either of the two LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers sooner.  The two LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers I’ve been using are ‘Dark Angels’ and ‘Angels on Bare Skin’.

Since I know my skin loves charcoal products, I began to first use the  Dark Angels  LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser.  Dark Angels is a charcoal and black sugar cleanser that gently exfoliates, absorbs excess oil, and leaves the skin looking brighter and feeling smoother.

LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser Dark Angels

Dark Angels LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser

Ingredients: Rhassoul Mud , Cold Pressed Avocado Oil (Persea gratissima) , Glycerine , Powdered Charcoal , Black Sugar (sucrose) , Sodium Lauroyl Sarcosinate , Perfume , Linalool , Sandalwood Oil (Santalum album), Rosewood oil (Aniba rosaeodora)

Cost: $12.95/ 3.5 oz – $31.95/8.4oz

The Dark Angels LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser was gentle enough for me to use both night and day, but, if you do experience dryness from overuse/over exfoliation, then cut back to once per day.  After my first use, my skin no longer looked dull.  Areas where I had some dry skin that my other cleanser and facial sponge failed to remove, the Dark Angels LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser got rid of.  I was amazed at how smooth, soft and supple my skin was after rinsing, too!  There were times when I used it before going to bed that I didn’t even have to use a moisturizer – I’d  just use my Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster and go right to sleep, and wake up with great skin!

The Dark Angels LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser can get a bit messy if you aren’t careful. Just make sure you add the proper amount of water to it, creating a paste, and then apply it to your face.  I usually rinse it off while I’m showering, and it hasn’t stained my face or my tub.

Angels on Bare Skin Fresh Face Cleanser

Angels on Bare Skin LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser

Ingredients: Ground Almonds (Prunus dulcis) , Glycerine , Kaolin ,Water (Aqua) , Lavender Oil (Lavandula hybrida) , Rose Absolute (Rosa centifolia) , Chamomile Blue Oil (Matricaria Chamomilla) , Tagetes Oil (Tagetes minuta), Benzoin Resinoid (Styrax tonkinensis pierre) , Lavender Flowers (Lavendula hybrida) , Limonene , Linalool.

Cost: $13.95/ 3.5 oz – $33.95/8.4 oz

Angels on Bare Skin LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser is another reason my skin is thanking me.  The ground almonds and lavender flowers make it a great gentle exfoliator for daily use even twice a day.  When using it, it doesn’t feel like it’s doing much, but after you rinse it off, your skin is like ‘WOW!’ Super soft, moisturized, radiant and clean.

Angels on Bare Skin, like Dark Angels can get a bit messy, so I use it in the shower, too.  I first apply it over the sink, and let it sit on my face sort of like a mask while I’m washing everything else in the shower, and rinse my face last. This also allows the Kaolin clay to better do its job.

I’m going to admit that I [accidentally] tasted Angels on Bare Skin. While massaging it into my face, some dripped down onto the crease of my lips, and I got a hint of sweetness.  Thank God all of the ingredients are natural. It was only a little bit, so I’m certain I wouldn’t have died.

Overall, I’m happy with both LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers.  Both cleansers leave my skin feeling clean without feeling stripped and dry.  Since using both LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers, my skin has looked so much better.  I can now go out without makeup (no concealer, no foundation), and still have a fresh faced look.

Although a little bit expensive, you can get a lot of use from a 3.5 oz jar since you’re not using that much; you only need a pea sized amount for your entire face; however, if you use it for your face and your body, you will definitely run through it a lot quicker.  The LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers are also available in a large size to accommodate those individuals who prefer to use them on their face and body.  The LUSH Fresh Face Cleansers are the perfect option for whipping your skin into shape for the summer.  Just think of it as spring cleaning for your skin.

LUSH Fresh Face Cleanser Options:

  • Aqua Marina: Those who have a tendency to react to citrus or strong herbal oils will find salvation in Aqua Marina’s gentle aloe vera and moisturizing nori seaweed. Especially cooling on wind-chapped faces, Aqua Marina is perfect for normal to dry skin types.
  • Herbalism: Best suited for those who have tried everything to clear up their oily and blemish prone skin with an antibacterial blend of rosemary, nettle and chamomile.  Ground rice bran acts as an effective exfoliant, while kaolin clay deep-cleanses pores.
  • Let The Good Times Roll: A luxuriously soft and sweetly-scented cleanser, Let The Good Times Roll is made with maize flour and corn meal to gently exfoliate, and a dash of cinnamon powder to cleanse and warm cold winter skin. It’s perfect for normal or dry skin types looking for a light exfoliation.

Fragrance Friday: David Yurman Essence Collection features Perfect Spring Scents

David Yurman Essence Collection

On my daughter’s birthday, my husband also presented me with a few gifts; he’s sweet and thoughtful like that.  Two of the gifts he purchased were fragrances – Flora by Gucci and the David Yurman Essence Collection.

David Yurman Essence Collection

The David Yurman Essence Collection is a trio of fragrances that are perfect for spring: Exotic Essence, Delicate Essence and Fresh Essence.  The David Yurman Essence Collection is a wonderful addition to my fragrance collection due to its versatility; you can choose to wear one fragrance or mix and match, and layer fragrances to create your signature scent for day or evening.  Although I love all three scents in this collection, two of them are my favorite – Exotic and Fresh Essence both exhibit qualities I love in my fragrances.  Both of them have a hint of masculinity, and do well in portraying a strong, sensual, sophisticated woman.

David Yurman Essence Collection

Exotic Essence (Citrine)

This slightly masculine scent is one of my favorites from the David Yurman Essence Collection.  This is a great scent for the evening due to notes of sparkling mandarin, casablanca lily, rose petals and exotic woods.  The woodsy notes combines with the lily and rose petals make it, in my opinion, the most sensual fragrance in the collection, thus making it the perfect scent for a date night, but that doesn’t mean I don’t wear it during the day because I definitely do.

Delicate Essence (Pink Tourmaline)

This fragrance has notes of pink pepper, lotus blossom and sparkling orange.  The pink pepper doesn’t dominate in this fragrance; however, I get more of the lotus blossom and sparkling orange.  To me, Delicate Essence is a light and flirty making it the perfect scent for a day at the office.

Fresh Essence (Vivid Peridot)

I get the most wear out of Fresh Essence.  Not only is the color of this fragrance Peridot, which is my birthstone, as well as one of David Yurman’s favorite gemstones.  This is a very clean and fresh scent.  It’s light and slighlty floral.   It features notes of sparkling apple, cassis, juicy red fruits and fresh greens.  I like it combined with Exotic Essence.

More reasons to love the David Yurman Essence Collection

What I love about each of the fragrances featured in this collection is the staying power of each of them; they last a long time!  From  the time I spray it on in the morning until I reach home or even after, the scent is still there.  Due to the longevity of the fragrances, all three bottles, depending on the ones you use the most should last you for some time.

The simplicity of the bottles, the jewel tones of each of the fragrances in this set, along with the scents have made the David Yurman Essence Collection a staple in my spring fragrance arsenal.  Unfortunately, the collection was released in 2011, so it may prove to be hard to find. And since I received it as a gift, I am not sure of the price.

What’s your current spring fragrance?
