Review: Ruby Kisses Super Gloss Iced Coffee (Swatches)

I won a Ruby Kisses Cosmetics twitter giveaway.  The prize pack included a bunch of goodies from this super affordable cosmetics line, such as eyeshadow, eyeshadow primer, glitter liner, all over glow and more.

The first product from this line I’m going to review is their Super Gloss in Iced Coffee.  I apologize for the wear of the lipgloss tube, but, it’s a fave lippie now that’s been smashed around in my bag.

Description:

Mouth-watering flavors and lip-enticing colors combine into one Super Gloss. Our new non-sticky formula, infused with vitamin E and aloe vera, will help protect, nourish and moisturize your lips with lustrous shine.

Typical lip gloss applicator.  It picks up just the right amount of product.

Pros:

-The color is the perfect nude gloss.

-It has the right amount of shine.

-It’s not tacky, too thick, or heavy.

-It has just the right amount of shimmer, which isn’t teeny bopperish

-Yummy light vanilla scent

-Keeps my lips moist.

-It looks great alone or over another lipstick. I use it on top of my NYX Jumbo lip pencil in Rose Brown.

-Super Affordable – $1.99

Cons:

-Doesn’t last too long.

Picture Below is without flash

Overall, it’s a great product at an affordable price.  I would recommend the Super Gloss unless you have allergies to scented products. It comes in 12 shades, and I can’t wait to try some other colors.  Who knows, I may pick them all up, especially since they are $1.99.

These products can be found at your local beauty supply store.  I’ve also found the products here.

FYI:  If you follow me on twitter, you’ve probably seen that I love their Menthol Lip Salvation.  It keeps my lips soft and moist.

Have you tried any of Ruby Kisses Cosmetics Products?

Which are your favorites?

Disclaimer:  I received these products in a prize pack for free.  I was not paid for this post.  These are my honest opinions.

Sponsored Review: L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara

L’ORÉAL PARIS ENCOURAGES WOMEN EVERYWHERE TO STOP “FAKING IT”
No woman should ever have to “fake it.” Whether it’s flashing a faux smile through a horrible date or flaunting fake lashes that are tricky, frustrating and time-consuming to achieve, L’Oréal Paris is encouraging thousands of women everywhere to join them in pledging to never fake it again. Because after all, any woman that’s experienced the real thing is sure to pass on faux forever.

About Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara:
From the creators of the cult-favorite Voluminous Mascara comes a breakthrough in fiber mascara technology. Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara reinvents the false eyelash look, making it possible to achieve the clean impact of professionally-applied false lashes.

L’Oreal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara Features
  • Dual-length fiber formula
  • Exclusive polymer adheres fiber to lashes
  • Botanical waxes prevent hardening, crumbling or flaking
  • Precision brush ensures optimal application
  • Safe for sensitive eyes and contact lens wearers

My Thoughts:

I love full lashes, which is why I am a big fan of false lashes.  Now that I have an infant, I have hardly anytime to apply them, which is why I keep a few of my favorite mascaras with me in my purse and in my desk drawer at work.  You can’t ever have enough mascara, and as a beauty addict I love trying new things, especially a product that makes claims to give you the false lash look without applying a lash; a time saver.  I jumped on the opportunity to try out the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara.  I like the product, but, I am not in-love.  I do love the packaging though.  It looks like an expensive YSL product.

Pro’s

Lengthens

The wand makes application easier

Doesn’t flake

Great for sensitive eyes

You see results with 1 OR 2 coats. I normally use 3 with some others.

Cons

Clumps if you don’t work fast enough.  Thank God I mastered it quickly.

It has a chemical smell

I started using my Dior Show Lash Primer Maximizer Serum with it to help with the clumping issue too, and  to add, it made my lashes look like WHOA!!!

Do I recommend?

I would recommend this product because it does do what it says it would.

Below are some before and after pictures of me wearing the L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara!

Let me know what you think.

Availability:

L’Oréal Paris Voluminous False Fiber Lashes is available now at mass-market retailers and drugstores nationwide for a suggested retail price of $8.95.

Shic by Soketah Hair, Nail & Beauty Bar Grand Opening Event

Sunday, November 13, 2011 I attended the Shic by Soketah Hair, Nail and Beauty Bar’s  Grand Opening party to support my hair stylist (she’s been doing my hair since the 6th grade!)and her business partners on their newest business venture – a full-service beauty salon.  This new spot, unique to the area, is owned by four young African American women (and long-time friends) Keisha Farrell, Sonia Lashley (my hair stylist), Kristal Thomas and Jamilla Martin.  I’m very excited for these ladies.

Shic by Soketah brings something new and chic to the neighborhood.  Unlike its sister salon, Soketah Hair Divas (across the street), at Shic you are afforded the opportunity to literally let your hair down without being embarrassed because of a male presence.  You can enjoy getting your hair, nails, and makeup done in a relaxed setting.    You may view their service menu here.

Who has time to troop here, there, and everywhere  to get a mani/pedi, and do their hair?  Shic by Soketah solves that problem.  I like  the option of being able to, if needed, having all beauty services, even makeup appplication all in one place.  Very convenient, especially for today’s busy woman.

During this event, attendees were able to receive a free express design manicure, express eye makeup application by Billie J and gift bag with a donation of $10 or more in support of the Brooklyn Young Mother’s Collective.  Attendees were also given the opportunity to take advantage of deals such as 15% off all Redken beauty products. 10% off all Fiji beauty products. As well as being able to receive 20% off of an appointment for a future date if made the day o the event.

A portion of all of the grand opening afternoon sales will be donated to Brooklyn Young Mothers’ Collective (BYMC). BYMC provides ongoing case management and education advocacy services to disadvantaged young mothers to ensure that young mothers experience educational success and self-sufficiency.

The salon is the perfect setting for regular pampering sessions and is also equipped to handle group or private events such as birthdays, girls night out, corporate events, bridal parties and special occasions.  I’m hoping to host my first blog event there.

They had a cute cupcake display.  Cupcakes were made by Tonnie’s Mini’s and they were good!

Review: The Best Cream for Dry Skin – Lancôme Nutrix Royal Body Cream

Description (source):

Rescue extremely dry, dehydrated skin with this sumptuous cream that locks in nourishing moisture for 24 hours. Feelings of tightness virtually disappear, thanks to Lancôme’s ultra hydrating formula that’s enriched with Royal Jelly for lasting comfort. Almost immediately, skin feels smooth, supple and cushiony-soft.

For best results, apply to body when skin is still damp.

Benefits

  • Smoothes and nurtures skin with 24-hour moisture
  • Cushions and insulates skin from the effects of climate and seasonal changes
  • Smoothes on effortlessly, drenching skin in comforting non-greasy moisture for a satiny-soft feel

Technology

  • Royal Lipidéum™ Complex of Lipidéum and Royal Jelly: Helps skin retain moisture by supplementing its own natural lipids (moisture-binding fat cells found in the skin)
  • Contains Shea Butter, one of the most effective ingredients to fight dryness
  • Chestnut Peptides increase skin’s natural lipid production

My thoughts:

I simply love, love, love this product.  This right here… is like the best cream for [my] dry skin.  My hands, especially since I wash them constantly get dry quickly so I usually test moisturizers there first because if they work on my hands, it’ll work anywhere else. With regular moisturizers (I was using Kiehl’s Deluxe Hand & Body Lotion) my hands would get dry not too long after application of the cream.  The Nutrix Royal Body Cream kept my hands (and later on, my body) moisturized throughout the day, even after consecutive hand-washing/showering.

After noticing its miracle-like properties I used this bad boy daily.  Once I got down to the last drop, I cut the end off to ensure I got every last bit of goodness out of the tube.

Pros:

-Inexpensive (for a Lancome product) – $29-$35/ 7oz

-A little goes a long way.  The moisturizing feeling lasts for I’d say at least a 24-hour period.

-Great texture

-Absorbs quickly and nicely into the skin

-Moisturizes and makes skin feel soft, supple and smooth.

-No sticky or greasy residue

Cons:

Perfume-like scent.  I’m not really fond of scented lotions, especially when they smell like perfumes I don’t like – the scent of an old woman.   The scent doesn’t linger around too long, but, it’s a bit intense in the beginning.

Do I recommend:

Yes, I would suggest you pick-up this product if you suffer from dry skin. Winter is near, which means dry skin is in some of our futures.  Prevent it, and tackle it with Nutrix Royal Body Cream.  It really works!

What is your favorite item(s) to combat dry skin during the winter?
